Volvo EC210C Fuel Problem

Hi,

Recently had a fuel pipe leak (part no VOE20838200) on a Volvo EC210C which caused the engine to stop and show error code SID232-04. Replaced pipe and engine is still sometimes throwing error code SID232-04 and will stop itself. The pipe was a double headed pipe which I believe feeds fuel into the two high pressure pumps.

When it doesn't show the error code, machine is underpowered, when in service menu, engine load will not go over 50%. Would that be the machine staying in limp mode? Common rail pressure readings on the screen seem ok, 300 to 400 bar at idle and around 700 bar at working RPM.

Low pressure fuel system stays constantly at 7bar when machine is running.

Should the low pressure system fluctuate slightly or is it normal for it to stay fixed at 7 bar?

Good day Tudur
The minimum pump pressure as to my information is 5 bar so yours looks good, loss of power is a little confusing.
Kind regards

First thing , check your fuel water separator. Verify there is no air intrusion at the bowl.
Second, you'll never see in excess of 50% load as the pumps will destroke to save engine speed and prevent lugging.
On the bottom of the fuel tank is a service/drain. Drain some fuel into a clean bucket. Do this first thing in the morning, let it sit for a bit. Does water settle on the bottom? Is the fuel clear or is it slimy?
Your pressure sounds good. By your description, it sounds like one or more injectors has suffered a bit of etching from water ingestion. Common rail fuel systems, regardless of manufacturer, have zero tolerance of water. Good luck

Hi,

Checked filters and drained bottom of tank, fuel very clean. Filters were replaced around 20 working hours ago, had been running fine until the fuel pipe leak.

The following error code comes up every time SID232-04, any ideas what this code is?

Machine will run (underpowered) for around 30 seconds, then will stutter, cut revs and switch itself off.

I have an injector coming on Tuesday to try and go through one by one to see if there is a faulty injector.

Is it safe to remove the return from the common rail & injectors to see how much fuel return there is and whether it reduces as we change injectors? Or is the return line also at very high pressure?

Thanks for your help.

From what I can tell, that error pertains to 5v reference to sensors. Please enter service mode and observe values. Then start engine. Some of those values will either display as dashes or zeros and won't change with engine running or off. Once you've identified which sensor is faulty, we can troubleshoot from there.
This looks to be more of an electrical problem vs fuel or mechanical.

Hi,
Had a look at the sensor readings, fuel pressure stays at 7bar whether engine is running or not, I took the sensor out of the housing and it still read 7 bar. When disconnecting the sensor connector, pressure drops on screen to around 3 bar. Could be sensor or wiring problem?

Also boost pressure sensor stays at 0 at all times, assuming this should be up a couple of bar when engine running especially under load. Is the boost pressure sensor the one mounted on the intake manifold?

Thanks
