I did find out that if you leave something lay on the tracks then walk to the point and find out you need that thing you left on the track ... It's a long walk to get it ;) .... Up hill ... both directions...

I assume that the term comes from pulling yourself up by your own boots straps . In this case it means Old School self erection . I have only been in on it twice in 34 years so it is not really common but works . It's a way to take the crane house off and on the carrier with out an assist crane .

It involves what looks like an over sized swing set frame , Some nerve and planning . The pics will tell the story for the most part

Thanks for showing that. I have heard of it, but never got to see it done before.

I know that lots of things used to get done like this before the lawyers got involved and made everyone afraid of everything. Now the rules take skill out of things and dumb down every job as if the biggest bunch of idiots were working it.

Not sure if you can see these pics clearly but I have done this sort of crane moving many years ago . Just a tad past D.O.T. regs

Back in the day , You could hire an off duty officer to escort .

That's still done frequently around here. In my story about hauling the train car convoy and meeting the house coming down the same narrow curvy road, there was an off duty deputy from another county leading the house. He we could put the train and the crane on somebody's concrete driveway to let them pass, but the house mover came and explained to him the orders I was refusing weren't reasonable before it got ugly. :D

Brother Impact told me to get back to adding to this sooooo.

These pics are from the Hilton hotel in Branson Missouri . 1st let me apologize because I forgot who the assist machine belonged to this was back a few years . Cell companies will spend good money to get their site in the sweet spot . This time it was on top of the Hilton hotel in Branson . In order to get the equipment shelter that far up and that far back it took a 300 ton crawler .

This next bunch of pictures is from the bridge building side . The rebuilding of the Grandview Triangle . They are from around 2005 to 2007 . I 49 (US 71) , I 470 and I 435 all come together in that one area .

The triangle had such a bad reputation that after it was opened part way the state attempted to change the name to 3 trails crossing but the public didn't buy into that . I think the company had nearly every crane they owned on this project before it was over with. It had huge steel pier caps that had to be put up at night because of having to keep the traffic rolling . One of these steel caps weighed in at over 400,000 lbs .

Wilkerson and Clarkson were working out there at the same time . Clarkson took the bulk of the work and still Wilkerson had cranes rented to Clarkson . Having to keep traffic rolling meant you built a bridge before you could tear one down to start the next bridge . In the picture you will see new going up beside old work and bridges partly torn down to make way . Some pics will show bridges being built under others .
