stone roller hyd motor chatter

Hi everyone

looking for some other thoughts, have a couple older stone construction equipment rollers,

our 43 inch roller (SD-43) lost its vibration on the drum, ended up it stripped out the splines, no big deal got it rebuilt and back together

took it out for a test and works great

until one of our guys went from full reverse to forwards rapidly, got a weird chattering noise, almost sounds like i piece of tin catching on a fan blade (not that)

jacked the unit up and tried it under no load, no noises being as aggressive as I could smooth, put it back on the ground, and retried it thinking maybe a air pocket, no dice,

no noise going from forwards to stop, just reverse to stop, have to be at minimum half throttle

nothing appears to be loose to catch anything rotating

thought maybe a brake but the machine is a hydrostatic transmission and the only brake is on the drum, and sound is coming from the rear half of the machine

seems to be that the wheels are still turning a bit and forcing oil backwards through the motor but that doesn't make a lot of sense

with stone construction products being defunct now support is limited so any thoughts be appreciated,

follow up

its in the rear drive wheels area, in the hydraulic system. did find some diverter valves with damaged seals, waiting on parts to check, (5-7 weeks from valve manufacturer, apparently due to covid, seeing if can get seals matched up locally

seals did not help, there is nothing rubbing, at this point it has been put aside and let it run for a bit as has not completely gone yet. not much I can get a picture of for the issue
