with measurement we are the same us older guys lift the pavement a couple of inches and shave off 15 mm. back in the day when metric was introduced in australia iwas a roller driver the old grader driver didnt want to know about metric ,i was stringlineing and giving hand signals one finger 10mm two 20 mm ect thumb up or down and he kept cutting too heavy so turn around and push it back in. he started roaring and yelling at me then we realised im talking metric and he's cutting inches.

I still do the conversion in my head. I have a standard rod in my truck for taking shots when doing private work. Most of the government people are metric. When I ask how thick the base will be so I can cut out the joint, and he says 100 mills, I think 4 inches. My 14 foot moldboard is 4.2 meters. But the job is staked at 25 meter sections for placing gravel, and 12.5 meters for fine grading. I'm 52, but I know a lot of older guys that use all metric, and to tell the truth, I have started using a metric tape measure when wood working because the math is easier than having to deal with fractions
