You would need some serious bracing to put a crane on a trailer and than you would need a serious truck to pull it. By the time you got done it would probably be easier to just buy a bigger service truck. Sorry to be negative, maybe someone else has a different idea?

How big of a crane are you looking at.

As long as the trailer is built strong enough and you have good outriggers at all 4 corners, it shouldn't be a problem. I found a few pics by googling "service trailer crane" and hitting the "images" button.

That is a 65000 ft/lb crane which is a pretty fair size. They would consider that too large for an f550 or 5500. You would probably have to build it yourself to get one that big on a trailer. You would always need a good amount of weight on the trailer for counterbalance. The problem with outriggers is they would need to be pretty long if you're lifting 2000 lbs 30 ft out from the trailer.

Id be worried about loosing all the counterweight that an engine, transmission and front axle hanging out 20' in front of the crane adds to the party. You cant make up for lack of counterweight with outrigger spread as you're just pushing your radius out farther from the center of rotation
