Thanks for the description. I would love be able to see these machines in person. I just so happen to see a barge this morning heading south down Georgia strait by Victoria with two 044s on it.
I think but could be wrong they came from the charlottes down to c river then down and around to Henderson in alberni inlet

I don't know much about the 062 other than it was a one of a kind, serial nbr 48100 and it was mounted on the only produced 069 4 axle carrier with a series "S" spar. The normal 009's had 065 RTC carriers and the much bigger 046 slacklines had the more heavy 078 carrier. I'm not sure, but I think the 069 may be the carrier for the 046 in this post: S. Madill, Blacksmith, Founded in 1911 in Nanaimo BC. Please correct me! I have never seen a picture of the 062 before I saw Jumbo's post here, but it looks very much like a 009. Just like the 009 it was also a 3 drum yarder (main, haulback, straw) but it had a 600 hp CAT D346 as powerplant, making it the most powerful 90 feet/yarder combination ever delivered by Madill! The typical 009/90 ft of the 1970's was of type 3-500 (3 drums-500hp) with CAT 65B (1693/D343) inline 6 cylinder engines and 3-450 with GM12V71.

Larry,I have posted a picture of that machine on CZ site. I was moving it from Nanaimo Lakes to Nitinat. NL used it on 2 shifts at the Reload on 1st Lake. When loadout shut machine came to Nitinat for loading from a Grapple Yarder. Ended her life under a cutting torch

I guess I have the same list as Bill Forester... I see the 062 and 058 (SNR 48101) were both delivered in october 1972. The 058, on an 061 tracked u/c (only one), was type 4 drums and 250 hp. Blk prince, I tried to find your picture but couldn't. Look forward to see pictures of these mysterious Madill machines.

TorkelH. On the CZ site post#286. There are 4 pictures. The 3rd pic is the Madill loader on the lowbed. Bp

yarder barge 2.jpg yarder barge 3.jpg yarder barge.jpg
Gone, but not forgotten......

These 2 Madill 009's were scrapped in Hoonah, Alaska in 2006, about a month after I took these pics. Both were in great running condition, and DRIVEN onto the scrapper's barge, only to be cut up on the barge and hauled to Seattle smelters. Damn shame, but a common end for these and hunderds of other old yarders.
Sadly I photographed this barge in Seattle on July 9th 2011 although the Madill scraping victims are similar. The red one appears to be a 046 and the yellow a 009 I believe. View attachment 179711
