not a fan of tool carriers... main reason is the bucket linkage is farther away...
the ones we have had dinky buckets on them.... and not real stable... we even had one turn over going across a ditch.. and he wasn't hotrodding it either...

they are nice for unloading pipe but that's about it. my opinion

this new it62 maybe more stable but

Cat catches MWM
Caterpillar on 22 October 2010

Caterpillar is buying German engine manufacturer MWM Holding from private equity company 3i for £514m in cash.
MWM specialises in engines powered by natural gas and special gases as well as diesel. This includes a combined heat and power systems and trigeneration solutions that can operate on a wide range of fuels including natural gas, biogas, mine gas and industrial waste gas.
The German company will become part of Caterpillar's Electric Power Division (EPD) which supplies natural gas and diesel generator sets and integrated power systems for the generation, control and supply of electricity.
Caterpillar CEO Doug Oberhelman said: "This is a natural complement to Caterpillar's existing diesel and gas power generation business and demonstrates our commitment to continued investment in sustainable products and industries."

What is a tool carrier? I know the laws are changing about hositing from a forklift. I usually hang a 3/4 cable around the tilt pin of my GEHL, my favorite lift, I guess I can't do that anymore. How about a 3/4 over the lifting bar? I hope manufactures make a hook without an attachment

gee the regulations are bit differant down here!

our lifting devices (loaders with either forks or boom attachment) must have a load chart and hose burst protection (crane valves)

Yep and once all the hose burst protection is on they are useless as a loader coz they are to slow in the HYDs. At work all our ITs have been fitted with hose burst as well as all the excavators. So if u need to do some loading its quicker to use to use the old 920& 930 loaders we have as they are much quicker. In some ways the burst protection makes them more dangerous coz if u got a bucket full in the air and u drop a wheel into a soft bit of ground u cant get the bucket down fast which could cause problems, just my 2cents worth. Cheers RDG.

yeh, thats true, they do make them slower, we had some 950H's fitted with them but they also had an electric overide switch to bypass the crane valves to keep the factory cycle times which worked ok, the more these systems are used and intergrated into machines at a factory level the better they will get, just make it harder for the mechanic's to fix em thats all!

I'm looking at getting an IT28 to load 2500kg cotton bales onto trucks.

Is this the machine for me?

Any input appreciated.

Isn't a loader with a q/c about the same as a tool carrier?
As far as I know the IT has gone the way of the dodo. The current method is to equip a loader with a quick coupler front end and have interchangeable tooling (bucket, fork, brooms, lifting beam, etc) to fit on to the coupler.

If most of your work is using it as a forklift or material handler, then the IT is a good way to go, but if you do very much bucket work, you are far better off with a regular loader with the coupler and attachments. I had an IT 38, and it was horrible doing anything with a bucket. Even shading ditches was trouble with the IT, as the bucket moves so slow it is hard to "shake" material out of the bucket.
Forget trying to be productive loading a truck or anything like that. It will get it done, if you are in no kind of hurry.

I'v run a it28 and a 924g. The 924 was much faster but when you have to pick something up with the forks like a pallet the 28 was much better to see what you were doing.

Totally different lift arm & linkage. IMO a loader with a quick coupler is a better bet than a tool carrier.

Yes you are right. I also have same point of view. there are many options which are better than tool carrier.:tong

The Caterpillar TOOLCARRIER named IT loaders, IT for integrated toolcarrier is a weel loader that will offer the possibility of self leveling. Up & down. It was eventually replaced by single boom machines.
