Possible Hub Style Changeover

We stripped down this triaxle trailer that we have owned for about 20 yrs., sandblasted & repainted the frame & when we got looking at the tires we discovered that most of them will not pass safety because of flat spots on them from someone locking up the brakes.:( Anyhow currently the trailer has 12 of 9R-17.5 tires on it with a carry cap of 3860 lbs in a dual configuration & I am looking at some 235/75R17.5 tires that have a carry cap of 5675 lbs each in the same configuration, of which the extra cap is needed to haul our one excavator.

Anyhow we are thinking about changing to the bud style wheels if we can, but are having trouble finding new hubs that fit our bearing/ seal configuration on the axles.

The bearings are as follows: Outer set-Timken # 405, Inner set Timken #413, hubs are KIC # 52511-01.

I understand the 235/R17.5 tires will fit our old rims, but we are thinking we want to go with the newer style hubs & bud rims. Anyone know if there are bud style hubs that fit that bearing configuration readily available? Maybe just put the new tires on the old rims & leave the hubs alone?

How much do you pull it? Just going tubeless radial makes a big difference. Back in the crane days we had tons of 10.00 15’s we swapped.

The heaviest load is about 20 tons, so with the trailer weight included it is 25 tons gross weight.

How many miles, oops kilometers haha, per year? It’s a cost vs benefit to me. Unless you’ve got $$ to burn! :)

Not a lot of miles each year, but in this case we need to change the tires to pass safety :(. The hub changeout is optional...……….nots sure yet what we are doing there. We tend to keep our equipment a long time & look after it well, so consider it a long term investment.
