Good morning Jim.
I’m no fitter,but that corrugated suction pipe you have in your pic is abit rum looking.
I suspect it’s sucking up its own backside and causing a few problems in its own right.
The lumps of metal in your screen are a whole different level of stress for its owner.

I guess I missed that suction hose/pipe! I may be wrong but that looks like a radiator hose. While it might work in a pinch for a short time I doubt it is made to have hot oil going through it.
