So had a friend drop off a free hammer, it looks to be about 750 pounds or so and the only ID on the unit is a stamp FX55-1988 a couple leads point to
    https://frdusa.com/fx45a-55a/#tab-id-4 furukawa
or spartan also has an FX55

The spartan documentation seems to have all the right pictures matching this unit.
What's the first steps in checking this unit out? disassemble and clean seems reasonable, make sure there's no trash to contaminate my hydraulic oil.
It will need a new point as the whole spud is only about 16 inches long.

So it seems like Furukawa / Kent is the place to go, seems one of my semi-local dealers is the contact for them. Spartan seems to have taken the Furukawa documentation and put their name on it, how strange! Folks at Fu mailed me off a copy of the parts listing so that's helpful.
