I think the year was 1998, the last time I worked in a facility with a hot caustic tank.

I hear ya brother.

I agree. As a matter of fact, I’m going to put a five gallon bucket of stoddard in my service truck and stick a suction sprayer in the top. I’m going to spray that $hit likes it was 1999.

LMAO! I carried a 5 gal bucket with about 2 gallon of stoddard on my service truck to use as a parts washing bucket with a parts brush, but never thought about "spray that $hit like it was 1999"! Love it!

Carbon tet was just being phased out when I got started. But, I remember using it. Along with plenty of MEK. I remember using buckets of stoddard solvent and air sprayers. Until one day, the safety guy took our solvent sprayers. I knew that era was over.

Hexane mixed 50/50 with isopropyl works pretty good as a fast evaporating solvent, if available in your area.
Dad and I where brushing epoxy of some sort one night in the shop that we thinned MEK (fairly sure that's what we used) I remember us giggling and finally figured up we needed some 02.

Along with Tet brake cleaner, MEK is still available in my area. Although you won't find MEK in the big box stores, have to go to the professional paint stores to get it.

Methyl Ethyl Ketone is bad stuff. I remember when my ship (a submarine tender) went through a yard period at Newport News in 1965. They had cleaned, dried and sandblasted the potable water tanks, and then one night they cleared everyone off the ship and sprayed some epoxy type coating in them, using MEK as a solvent. I think they kept us off the ship until the next night until the air sampling folks were satisfied that re-entry on board was safe. The smoking lamp was definitely out for a big radius around the ship.

You guys that keep harping on the new brake cleaner need to go back 50 yrs when we had no brake cleaner in a nice little spray can. Times change. Get over it. Ya, I’m cranky this morning

Yeah! A more simple time, when we used leaded gasoline or Jet A to clean everything.
