Invenergy has some Vestas units on Buffalo Mountain near here. They've done that same repair that way, but now a local welder/fab shop with kahunas has figured out how to hoist his welding equipment up into the nacelles, crawl on his belly out into the gear box, and weld (build up) the sheared teeth and grind them back into shape. What's that save, maybe $ 250k or more per breakdown? It's a tough job, climbing in and crawling around--hot as heck in the summer and brutally cold at 3,400 ft in the cold windy winter. Since he's started doing that, I don't think they've pulled any more gearboxes.
