51 years ago Sept 30 1970 a snipers bullet ripped through a semi hauling Gelex #1 dynamite.
Just west of Springfield, Mo on I-44 mile post 66. A 43,000 lb load. Killing driver John Galt and
vaporizing complete truck. Windows were blown out 12 miles away. It left a hole 50' wide, 70'
long and 30' deep. All over a union trucker strike.

The Pete is worth about $4000.00 if you realy wanted it . The Mack sometimes some thing needs to be scraped before any one gets a stupid ideal. I would see if anyone needs parts from the Mack then scrap it.

The shooter was a striking trucker. He had worked for the company they were picketing, and knew that 1/2 the company loads were dynamite. The driver who was killed had just been hired, he had been laid off from GE as a engineer. He left behind a wife and 4 kids.

The shooter and some accomplices (who were also shooting at the trucks), spent the day on a exit ramp drinking, waiting for that companies trucks to drive by. The shooter was sentenced to 99 years in prison, and served 8 years and was released in 1979.

I still remember that on the news in STL when happened, was quite a bad day all around. Soured numerous people on Unions, bad membership does not represent the basis of Locals.

This Detroit I don't mind because of what it is and the fact it was installed in the 60's by a guy named Rod Hussey in Ellensburg my old town.
It had a cattle box on it then and pulled a cattle trailer, 55 mph up hill 55 mph down. I would see it buzzing through town now and then.
Rod installed the 12V71 himself, Rick Cole of Ellensburg owns it now and rode in it when was a kid. Rick has been talking to me about installing
hydraulic power box steering. Which I might do. 1952 823 model.
