That's the Us Army Corps of engineers. They do have some combat engineering battalions but the majority of their work is civil engineering. Wolf Creek Dam not too many miles from here is one of their big projects from the past.

I know they have some smaller-sized machines, but I thought they contracted most of their work (esprecially the big stuff like this!) to contractors? The dams they own in the Naugatuck Valley (Thomaston, etc.) were mostly built by O&G and a few other guys way back in the day.

Anyway...that's a big ol' crane!!!

Those are a beautiful piece of equipment.
There not as hard to move as you would think.
Takes a lot of trucks,people,and a crane,ha
Some of the "gates" on the river locks are very large and heavy.
I could see were they would use it.

Ok, Rob we won't say that.:) But maybe they just want to pick stuff with it?:beatsme:D:D

What I think it really comes down to is how different countries utilise thier resourses. When you say Royal Corp of Engineers I naturally think military and automatically relate to our forces and cannot think of any reason for our guys to need something so big. Where as in the USA your RCofE do a serious amount of big construction. Big boys deserve big toys :cool2 :drinkup

It takes 7 men....8 trucks....16 trailers......2 permits.....and deep pockets to move it.

If it only takes 7 men, who drives the 8th truck? :beatsme

That good sized crane. I will have to walk up to the stadium one of these days and take a picture of the Mantiowoc 14000 they have up there, now that's a crane.
