Ford challenges auto journos and they squeeze 34 mpg out of a stock 2011 Ford Super Duty (6.7L Power Stroke diesel) loaded with 1,000 pounds. http://bit.ly/a2weF1

If the superduty was getting that kind of mileage, what kind of mileage was the tow truck pulling it getting?

Well, on the bright side, they won't likely be worse than the 6.0L trucks.

I was promised they were 300,000 mile engines, industrial duty. Out of my 5 trucks, all of them put together could not run 300,000 miles without several major overhauls.

As for the mileage claim, how can they put 1,000 lb in and say "loaded"??? Most guys that buy a truck like that put 1,000 lb of toolboxes, fuel tanks, etc. in them before they even start to add tools. Then add a few thousand lb of cargo.

BTW, the test track must have been all downhill. If they coasted, they might make 34 mpg.
I want to know what it gets with about 3,000 lb of weight, plus a 16,000 lb trailer in tow. That would be meaningful info.

If the truck had 1000lbs in it, it probably grossed nearly 9000 lbs. 34mpg from a vehicle weighing that much is pretty impressive if you ask me.

I could sometimes get that out of my 40' RV.

It just barely was able to eek out 4mpg going UP the Grand Tetons though :falldownlaugh

Might even got better going down if I hadn't had to pull over twice when I smelled the brakes :eek2

Only a 80 mile trip so my guess is that at 81 miles regen kicks in and drops the mileage to 17mpg.

With the low quality of journalist's today, it's for sure their mileage claims for the pickup can not be believed. Particularly for those of us that know Ford's and the Power Stroke engine. Others have noted that a thousand pound load is insignificant. A true test would be pulling a 14-16000lb trailer. That's where it counts for pickups.

Pulled a 35ft fifth wheel to Florida with a 2011 6.7 F450 4x4 Crew Cab drove it like I stole it and averaged 15MPG. Power was very impressive and rode like a dream. I wish my 550 rode like that.

My Land Cruiser dont get that MPG ..

Is this the New BOSS Diesel?

Someone will have to work the Ltrs per 100kms out for the reat of the world
:tong

So:

Standard US Gallon (3.78ltrs)

34 Miles (54.7kms)

100 / 54.7 x 3.78

Around 7ltrs Per 100kms  :pointhead

What did they do, get a Ram with a gas burner in it?
I'm pretty sure a Cummins will do much better with only a 9500# trailer on it.

The Ford is impressive though, I just don't think the test was apples to apples
