We recently replaced the swing gear seal and when re-installing everything the machine will not rotate more than a few degrees back and forth.
We took the Planetary gear off and hung the motor, without planetary, hooked the lines up and it will still not turn.
There is fluid coming out the return line. It seems like the brake is not releasing.
Is there some sort of special bleeding or bleed port that needs to be bled?
When attempting to turn the motor will bog down some.
Any help or ideas would be appreciated.

If memory is correct the brake discs under the drive motor are a real pain to keep lined up then putting the motor back on top. Clean and dry them off and use some sticky grease to hold them in place till the motor holds them secure.

You have an expensive problem there don`t you ??? That would surely cause a swing problem.

Pain in the neck to put those in straight isn't it. Are you thinking of repair or are you looking at swapping a used motor in?

The parts were $4200 from the dealer. I found a used one for 1250 and 400 dollars shipping from Washington to Alaska! As far as lining it up goes, It was just a mater of mating it up with the planetary swing gears until the splines fit. The book doesn't say anything about timing or another incorrect way to install it. Do you have such knowledge??
Upon further inspection the "case drain" near the bottom was left capped and we are thinking it must have built up enough pressure to shatter the thrust washer, causing this nightmare. oops:rolleyes: If there is any other information I should know about this process, please do tell

The case drain is the lube bit that the thing that is now in 2 bits runs on? bit of a learning curve for you on the $1650

Greetings Alaskaforby4 - I appreciate your post (sort of).

Just bought a 490D with a few known problems from MI, back hear to MN. One of which is a leaking swing gear motor...

Two questions for you: Did you dismantle any portion of the motor to cause your troubles?

Secondly, may I presume one needs a press to remove the gear at the bottom (that meshes what's in effect a gianormous ring gear)?

Thanks,
Mark

Don't know for sure about your system, but on the hydrostats we use, when the case pressure gets too high it can force the pistons that are open to the low side to push into the cylinder bores, lifting the brass slipper feet off the running surface. Then what you have is a fairly fast destruction derby. The retainer plate is a common failure item in my world. Good luck with her!
