HDX... these images may have already been posted earlier in the blog... but I came across them while sorting through the IWA archives in Lake Cowichan. I didn't know that H-17... well, they call it 45-115... was featured on a Canada Post stamp back in 1975. What ready peaked my interest was another story in an old MB Journal which captured the whole story. Oh... and it comes with a 1975 vintage photo... nice hair... it's so dark!! LOL!! Hope you don't mind me offering these up for everyone. I guess this makes you famous!!

Here's more commentary that I dug up...
The Hayes-Anderson Company built its first truck for the B.C. logging industry in 1922. Over time, its successors designed and produced many other trucks and buses but the logging truck had always been the backbone of the company. Paccar took over the firm in 1975, but the last truck built before the change is still on the road. Today, Steve Drybrough of Port Alberni, B.C., drives the Hayes HDX 45-115 logging truck purchased new by MacMillan Bloedel in 1975. Moving worry-free over treacherous mountain roads, he looks down the clouds from the cab of his 'Angel's Playmate', safe and comfortable. Angel's Playmate, the last truck ever produced by Western Hayes Truck Ltd., was completed in 1975 for MacMillan Broedel. Mr. Drybrough has been its only driver.

Today I was supposed to be traveling to BC Canada but due to Covid-19 I have had to postpone the trip until August 2021. I had otherwise planned to be 1 week on the Sunshine Coast and 3 weeks on Vancouver Island. Here I would chase off highway logging trucks and camp in the wilderness. But unfortunately it has to wait. I've learned that Wahkash has 14 Hayes HDX in their fleet now - I think it's unique. In 2014 I found 2 old Hayes HDX - old Saunders trucks - parked in a scrap yard. See pictures of them at Saunders thread post #77 as I recall. I thought they would be scrapped but got a surprise when this and several other pictures appeared on instantgram - the picture I borrowed from instantgram. One can safely say that Hayes was "built to last"

Pulled from the weeds and back working, now that is great. I hate to see them parked in the weeds, waiting to be scrapped. Much prettier going down the road loaded with logs!

Now that’s awesome. People can say what they like about this old stuff being crude and hard on fuel but it’s tough to beat in my opinion. Good quality steel and a green leaker. That’s about as simple as you can get! Try neglecting a fully electronic 2020 machine for decades and see what happens.

Hey new member long time Hayes lover and got my first HD was hoping anyone would have info or so it’s from Prince George and was owned by Stan olafson for years the Ross Baird got it in 1996 then it sat until I got it last week 5024 is the serial number

It has the same look as the Baldwin Truss Hayes picker truck. Island guys might remember that one ,i havent seen it for a few years.

HD9-70 Serial #1012174 wondering if anyone can tell me anything about this truck.Bought it at an auction the beast runs and the box is operational.Dont know anything about these trucks a owners manual would be awesome if any one knows if or where something like that could be had

It might surprise you to know that Pacific Truck & Trailer is still around, although they built their last truck in 1995. They're part of Coast Powertrain now. https://www.coastpowertrain.com/pacific_truck/index.htm

cwk266 You have an HDX NOT an HD The serial number is for an HD, Alright but that is an HDX with 46-40 rear ends. You have somewhat of a dilemma here.. What else can you find on her? Where did you buy her? Is she on the island? There was a few of these style HDX's built and bought for Contractors in the Cowichan area in this time frame.. We will work through this if you want and get to the bottom of her. Just let us know
