Always enjoy building something fun and useful out of scrap we have laying around . On this project we decided to build a handcar & track for the kids to burn off some of there energy & have some fun at the same time . I think the only thing I had to run to town for was some more wood screws to finish the track. Just used odds & ends we had around the shop . 2x4 lumber & old concrete form for the car frame & track . Go kart wheels and John Deere 450 C bulldozer transmission countershaft & gear for the final drive ... LOL! :D

Yeah MutsMachines . For now we just have about 35 ' of strait line track using 2x4 lumber for the cross ties & track itself . Click the photo link in post # 1 to see the track . It's nothing fancy . Those miniature railways people build are pretty cool . If I can come up with some small gauge iron T-rail sections I would like to set up an oval layout in the yard . An old employer of mine was quite the train buff . His upper floor in his home was mostly dedicated to a large HO scale rail road layout . It was about 20' x 30' . Built on plywood that sat up on saw horses so you crawled under it to get to the center opening where you stood at all the switches & controls . Pretty nice set up . That still didn't feed his hunger for Railroading . Later we started laying full scale (4' 8-1/2" ) gauge track outside in the lot and he started buying the full size rail cars & a small switch engine . He was an interesting guy to work for, learned allot from him .

What I liked about the hand car project is it was built with for the most part with common material we had laying around the shop . Didn't cost much to put it together and kids have a blast on it . Adults do to....;)

I'm guessing a lot people on Heavy equipment forums have a half scale hand car & track setting in the garage or shop that just needs to be assembled :).
