Caterpillar vin number decoding

I'm checking out a Cat 416 and trying to find what year it is. I have the vin number, wouldn't this tell me? Where can one decode the vin number on these machines short of going to the dealership. Thanks in advance.

lookes like a late 80's erly 90's model just from looking at it but i'm not a cat guy if you got the vin call milton cat up they should be able to tell you i would think they probably sold it .
