Haha- Not that good. I didn't get to Vail until the early 90's. I am from Longview and we ended up there for just a job or 2 and you know how that goes. Weyco asked us to come up from Longview for a minute and so we did. Then to Snoqualmie Falls, then to Enumclaw. Never agree to do anything like that cause it never ends! We were simultaneaously working from Longview to Sultan/Startup and it was insane there for a few years....

Completely stopped everything and got out of the business in 2000. Have never looked back and live in Alaska happily now with the bears, fish, and eagles.

Did Weyco ever sell the pulp mill at Cosi, or is it still dormant? My dad had an office in the forestry building beside it for several years. He did a lot of Weyco's original surveys, and they say his name is still on a whole lot of the maps they use, after all those years.

Ran across this video looking for something else today. I remember reading about this setup in Timberwest at on point. Hard to forget the neon green bins. I think he is a forester and part owner of a logging company in Montana.

Doesn't really show the yarder but in the background you can see the Berger MK2. It was a cold day and the old MK2 was being stubborn and had a few air leaks so we started a toasty riggin' fire.

I found a box of these (a full dozen) left over from the days when Howard-Cooper was the Berger dealer- 1980's.

I found a bunch of really cool old stuff (over the last month or 2) I've had stored for years....Stay tuned.

This old piece of iron looks really familiar. I have a hunch it spent about 10 years on the Oregon Coast logging big spruce between Tillamook and Seaside before being retired (sold to someone up the canyon) in the mid 1980's. In fact I have a hunch I may have even spent some time in the cab, but mostly on the landing chasing while going to college. It was a 100' tower with 7 guylines, cat engine, 1 3/8" skyline, 7/8" haulback, 1" skidding line. If it is same one, I think it was one of the sides featured in Loggers World in 1977 (Nov?). It was pretty cool to see all the work you guys put in to keep the history going!

Washington Model 207 Highlead Yarder - Mounted on Berger Tank/100' Tower

Now this (above) is an awesome picture! I'd say taken in the later 1960's and that Skagit loader looks great too. An awsome picture indeed! (Do you have more??)

The hoist is a Washington Model 207 and was sold new as a sled-mounted machine. Not long after (couple or 3 years) Allen's sent it to Berger in Seattle and had the tower with tank bottom setup put under it. Washington didn't really have a good option for re-mounting until later- the mid-70's.

The Berger was a nicer setup and easier moving and far more popular in the Forks area even though Allen's were longtime Washington buyers (They bought one of the 1st ever Trackloaders built and may still have it).

This was common and Ernie Nielsen had a yellow Madill 009 tank mounted with the orange Berger front/tower just like this too - it was still parked on the Bogachiel in 2004.

Anyway a friend of mine owns this machine today and here are pics of it taken in 2008. I saw it a month ago but didnt take any pics- was busy BS-ing....

Dahlgrens SP-23 working in Merrill & Ring's forestlands March 14 2011. Gravity yarding with Boman, as usual with Dahlgren very smooth and nice operation, good setup. Sorry for the dark pictures, it was 7.30 in the morning.
