That isn't any ordinary low boy and truck, and the shovel is loaded from the side. The gents in the photo look to have done a lot of this kind of work. It also strikes me of the kind of things that were done in those days.
It might been something that was done before my time in the woods , but it is the first time I have seen it done . Mind you the camp I started at had a Washington TL6 on a rubber tire carrier that was very mobile .That isn't any ordinary low boy and truck, and the shovel is loaded from the side. For short moves we quite often hauled the dragline with the tracks cross way on the trailer the boom hanging out the back.
Looks like the early 769 Cats we had at the quarry years back!I think this is the first photo I have ever seen of a Cat log truck.
