Naturally all the functions work.. BUT check the blow-by tube, a lot of x they're clogged & you cant see the BLUE smoke rolling out from under it.. PULL OFF the oil fill cap while its running & look for the smoke puffing out.. or pull the dipstick halfway out.. careful tho, you might get oil splattered.
Look for a coolant overflow bottle or line & look for rusty marks.. that'll give you some indication if its been overheated or coolant not maintained.
& just over-all engine appearance.. is it covered in grease & oil from leaks?? sticks & debris wedged into the lower covers?

If memory serves me it is a rebadged NH with a JD motor. They were pretty solid machines
