Looking at buying a 257b which has no hydraulics at all. Engine runs fine, but none of the hydraulics function including the radiator fan. Seller says its the pump but I saw no leaks when the machine was running, fluid was still at proper level and heard no growl or noise from the pump with the machine running. Any ideas?? Thanks!!

Sounds like the drive coupling. Don't know whats involved on that specific machine, probably easiest to pull engine out the back to replaced it versus trying to move the pumps. Someone with more experience will know hopefully or im sure if you go buy the parts, the service guy may quick tell you the best way. They are a common failure on high hour/older machines of any brand using that design. Its not a bad design or an inferior design, it does what its supposed to and wears out.

Look up your serial number on cat parts with the keyword coupling and you will see it.
