morning guys.
any John Deere gurus here?
I have a 2008 John Deere 325. 1500HRS- no fuel flow. fuel pump does not seem to be pumping. I know the mechanical pump is driven off a lobe of some sort, is it off the camshaft and if the camshaft gear bolt becomes loose does the pump stop as well or is the pump off the crank? hoping its not the dreaded camshaft bolt issue, will be puling the cover off later to verify. anyone have any manual for this thing or place to purchase.
thank you as always
John

Driven off the camshaft.

Click the manual to the right to take you to the purchase page. CTM301

Always helps to post the machine serial number as well.

thank you. I didn't grab the serial before I left the shop. I will post it later today. if I buy the download version do they send you a link via an email ? just curious. love to have the book though but don't want to wait 5-7 days.
sooo if the camshaft gear bolt slipped then that would explain why the pump aint pumping.... this sounds like a can of worms about to be opened.

If you hear hoofbeats think horse, not zebra.
Here the zebra would be cam not turning. . .
Is the pump just bad? Fuel supply to pump good? Fuel pressure check valve OK?
Cam in my experience doesn't quit turning, only slips several degrees.

I can see valve moving through the oil fill hole. I crank it and look and see movement. Fuel supply from tank is good. Got 12v to shut off solenoid. Where is the check valve located may I ask. I only see 90s on the block where fuel goes in and comes out. I picked up a new pump. Do they go bad? Nothing comes out of the fuel hose when cranking. Will fuel flow when the key is off through the fuel rack?

The barbed nipple attached to the 90 at the right side, rear of the block (left side front of the block when looking from the rear of the machine) has a check valve in it.

I picked up a new pump. Do they go bad?
Yes they do. Like @ozarkag said, make sure the supply is not only unrestricted, but clean as well. Many times it is debris in the check valves within the pump that cause the failure. I have also seen many with seized plungers.

Update**
Replaced fuel lift pump. Fixed hoses. Primed it. Got good flow it started to catch and fired up, ran for 5 seconds but the low oil pressure light was on. Shut it off. Hooked up mech gauge to the port and have zero oil pressure. New machine to me so not sure the history but it’s not building oil pressure at all it seems. ??

Are you measuring in place of the oil pressure sender? You need to measure pressure on the filter side of the engine. If you measure on the other side you might not see oil pressure due to that being the advance circuit for pump timing (which is controlled by oil pressure).

I measured on the oil press sending unit port right below the oil filter housing. turbo side of engine.
I have no pressure or flow. took turbo supply line off no flow. oil filter is not full. I took a sample but it looks a bit like some metal in the oil unfortunately. in all my years oil pumps don't usually fail completely? is there something I am missing that could cause catastrophic failure of oil pump. engine will have to come out Inow.
any good sources for rebuild parts. I don't see a lot of used engines online and the remans are 9-10k so that's not an option. I see overhaul kits for 1000-1500$

thanks again gentlemen.

Both the oil pump and the oil pressure regulator valve are in the timing gear cover. Engine still needs to be removed to get the cover off because the pan has to come off to remove the oil pickup, which is also attached to the cover and the block.

Hopefully, your engine oil pickup does not look like this 4024 engine oil pickup out of a Deere 320. That is a Hylomar sealant blob in the pickup. That is the sealant they use to use to seal the engine.

Wow is that a rag lol.
Ahhh fun fun not what I wanted to do to this machine. Pull and rebuild. I hope the crank and cyl walls are too badly galled.
