Hello,
We have a genie gth 1048 with john deere engine that starts and shuts off anywhere from 10 seconds to several minutes after start and then won't restart. Checked battery fluids, etc. Codes active were 83 yesterday so we pulled the connector off ECU and checked pin A1 for voltage to the aux shutdown pin and nothing. Put back together and ran for 10 minutes, then died again and now shows coded 18 (coolant temp high) & 83 (aux. shut down). Tries again and now just back to code 83, still no voltage though at pin. Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome to HEF ikon;)! What is your engine serial number? What is code 83's definition? Is it for auxiliary shut down? Does your machine have the capability of showing codes in the SPN/FMI format (xxxxxx.xx)? Do you have a display like the one shown below?

JD engine # 5JDXL06.8082. Code 83 is auxiliary engine shutdown switch active. We don't have the screen, just blinking light. It appears it may be 000970.31

Serial number will be on the plate on the side of the engine, not the engine/emissions info stickers on the valve cover.

Probably buried under wire looms or remote filters depending on the machine.;)

Yes, engine serial number is on the side of the block under the fuel filter. Should be a PE4045XXXXXXX number. Auxiliary shut down can be programmed as a normally open or normally closed connection, meaning you have a system on your Genie that either supplies power to the ECU pin A1 to shut down the engine or you have a ground supplied to ECU pin A1 to shut down the engine. That depends on how the payload was trimmed out in the software. Either way it is your Genie that is most likely shutting down the engine. You could have a Deere dealer tech come out and turn off the external shut down for diagnostics. If he turns it off and your unit still shuts down then you might have an ECU issue. If it runs then you have a Genie issue.

Ikon,
Curious if you ever figured out your issue. I am having the same problem with shutting off on my 2006 Genie GTH 1048. Any help would be much appreciated,
Thanks!
