    Memories for us old truckers

Great to see this video with the early years pictures. My Dad worked for the Company, in Fairbanks, in the early 1960's.

I Think AFC still has some on the Slope. Just saw an ad in a paper that shows them. Looks like some are painted yellow now.

    Any brand log trucks

Must be an interesting story on the truck with Alaska Freight Lines on the door. When I was kid I recall hearing some stories about a company with the same name, that worked quite a fleet of trucks here in Alaska in the '50s and (early? '60s). Wonder if there is any connection? There was a video...

    Job coordination gone wrong

I just noticed the windshield wipers are mounted on top of the cab. Don't think I ever saw that before on these trucks. Was it for some special application?

looking at cranes for some cabin and shop projects

I don't see the T handle tool, to operate the latch, that I recall being attached to the bottom of the boom of some of the machines I was around. Maybe it's just the way the picture is, and is in a different location out of sight?

Big Cam 3 Jake brake install

Whats the year on the engine? Don't know if it will help, just a thought as working from memory here, back in the mid '80's I worked with a 1975 truck that had an NTA 400 with Jakes, and for some reason I recall the NTA had a different number (25B?) for them, than on an NTC engine. I don't...

D 4 j dozer has 24 volt start - would like an easy to start added

Years ago I had opportunity to start a couple of Deutz 6 cyl, occasionally , that were fitted with spring starters. Seemed to work ok. IIRC they were a lucas brand. Don't know if they are still made.

    Aluminum Wheels

Interesting comments. Gained some new information. Working from memory here, were the 22.5 steel wheels in the '80s a stronger wheel v/s the steel 24.5?

    Cummins NH250 Swap

As I recall ,the NTA 400 that I worked with was a somewhat harder starting engine in cold weather than some of the others. Was in a 359 and had a compression release. Ran well after starting.

Why Does Everyone Hate Spicer Trans?

Even about the same color. The tilt hood was a real plus , as it was crowded. There was also a similar truck on the site that was a 4x4 conversion, had the 8.2 Detroit 4 cycle diesel and Allison. Don't recall that setup being much of a road truck!

Tricks for changing out difficult hydraulic hoses

The gripping piece, with the loop and some line, made running wire rope to sheaves somewhat easier at times.

    Memories for us old truckers

Interesting. I wondered what year they where first produced. First one I recall seeing was in early '74. Thought it was unusual as had only seen the COE's before.

Why Does Everyone Hate Spicer Trans?

In the late '80s where I worked, if I recall correctly, we had a mechanic truck with the 3208 and 10 spd, and the combination seemed to work ok on the highway. Truck was a, GMC with air brakes, service body with an IMT crane etc, so was heavy. Truck was fairly new then. Had the pickup style cab...

    Memories for us old truckers

Must be an interesting story about the route, hauling logs thru a tunnel. Looks like a chain drive KW in the center picture?

    Caterpillar / Kawasaki loader

I recall seeing one of those in a ships hold a long time ago (80's?) and thinking the same thing. Think it was new, as there were some smaller excavators, (other manufacturer's) in the same hold without brand names, but painted in the brand colors
