Time to sell the backhoe, or think it is...

Holy smokes, at those prices listed earlier i stole my 4500, and it works really well. I just saw one of these machines at 1500 for the whole machine with a bad motor in ohio. Ill say i really like my 4500, i bought it with a bunch of advice from these guys, if you find one not too far from...

    Bought a backhoe

Ill get some more pictures tomorow. It hasnt seen a pressure washer yet, and the backhoe and near side lift arm have been painted at some point. Im almost positive the rest is original paint. Both seats look to be original and in good condition.

Yeah, you guys do have a pretty valid point. I did find a full sims cab on marketplace a few hrs from the house, ive seen their garden tractor cabs, but this cab from a 4500 looks pretty heavy duty with some heavy square tubing at the front and rear. Do the sims hard cabs double as rops?

    Bought a backhoe

Thats part of what went into the decision making process. I was also going to look at a deere 310 that was about 30 minutes away with way more hours but the owner cancelled due to weather. He said there was no way hed be able to get it running due to the temperature. I just decided i was done...

    Bought a backhoe

Well i ended up picking up a backhoe. Its an old ford 4500. I got a pretty good deal on it, its a machine that came off a cemetary over near youngstown ohio. It was the only machine out of maybe a dozen that was willing to start by just cranking it over. The day i looked at it the temps were...

Ya, tax return time is just around the corner. Thatll up the budget and work is looking to be pretty steady this year. I would have made a killing in 2020 if job prices and job bonus werent so effected by the rona. Hopefully oil prices will stabilize now that weve got a vaccine and people...

    Looking at old backhoes

Im pretty much looking exclusively at case and ford/nh. The parts availability seems to be the best for those two brands, at least in this area. I thought about renting, but for the price of a rental, if i do my due diligence and get a machine thats decent mechanically, i should be able to...

I was more concerned with the amount of blowby on the case. My seat on my john deere isnt in that condition, but the tractor doesnt look great, but i keep up on my maintenance well ahead of time on everything, i just cant hold a seat against the guy.

Theyve both got trenching buckets, the one for the case just isnt shown. I do think the ford looks better cared for, the case sat from 2011 or so until 2 years ago when husband 2 got the injector pump rebuilt. As far as pricing, theyre going to end up about the same.

    Looking at old backhoes

I priced parts for a rebuild of the kingpin at about 100$. I giess i can take a caliper and see if its egg shaped or ovaled out inside. I know some of the big trucks weve gotten from down south are worn flat out inside 100 thousand miles and their roads dont even turn much. Ill for sure be...

    Looking at old backhoes

Ya, i cant believe the amount of input ive gotten as a newbie to this forum. You guys are unbelieveably awesome. I just had a guy email me with a 580e extendahoe in ohio for 6500. Says it needs a brake line and a bushing in the front end. If the front end isnt needing replaced and its not...

    Looking at old backhoes

Oh man, its enough to drive a person nuts. I was looking at pickups a few years back, and it was unbelieveable what people dont know about their vehicles. I needed a dually to pull my camper and wanted 4.10 gearing. Half of the people i talked to dont even know if theyre deleted let alone...

Ya ive talked to the guy in scranton. Hes dropped the price some, but in pictures its extremely rough. If hes at 3750 obo i might reach out again. I know it had some wild repairs done on the part of the boom nearest the bucket. Is that the dipper?

Arent just about all of them from this era? Thats my understanding from what ive read and looked at. I also just got offered a 73 ish white thats been sitting. Guy said he rebuilt the shuttle when he got it and is too old to fool with it. Said hed pretty much give it to me. He did say...
