D5B 25X slow to pick up trans pressure

Yes there's a suction screen and luckily it's accessible under the floorboard unlike the D4H that I just got finished with that is inside the trans housing. The mag screen was clean and a filter cut and press showed nothing. I think that your right. I'll go through and replace orings and clamps...

580k series 1 hard brake pedal

Well,,, after 2 Complete oil changes with the Case recommended Ultra oil they are still no better. I've kind of given up trying to get them to work correctly. The only remedy at this point is to not let any other operator run it. I kind of give up on it!

D5B 25X slow to pick up trans pressure

I have given everything a look over and didn't see anything obvious. I'm going to bring it back in , pull the floor and tighten anything that can be tightened. I hope it as simple as that. This old girl doesn't have any leaks so checking for pressure leaks is easy. A suction leak isn't as easy.

D5B 25X slow to pick up trans pressure

My tried and true D5B is getting pretty slow to get to move after cold start or hot re-start. After it engages everything is normal but it can take up to a minute to get it to move. It has always been slow to get to move but it seems to be getting worse. I replaced the trans pump years ago but...

580k series 1 hard brake pedal

Update,,,, I'm still fighting with the brakes everything and I mean everything except the housing has been inspected and replaced. New oem master cylinders, rebuilt slave cylinder actuators, new plates and steels. All newly flushed lines and fluid replaced with Case recommended oil. They have...

Owning old Iron vs renting new Iron

One thing I look for in evaluating a machine isn't necessarily the wear but the condition from side to side. If there's worn bolt heads down one side and new on the other then someone has already been there. Now it depends if the work has been done correctly. If it has new paint, new bolts ect...

Owning old Iron vs renting new Iron

I bought a D5 B in such bad shape that Cat wouldn't take it in trade from a pipe line company. It was pretty straight but abused. I paid 7k. The bones were good and I started the rehab process. It needed complete undercarriage and 1 final rebuilt. It also had 1 swing frame tweeked. When all said...

    D4 H part deux

With information gathered here I finally have the D4, otherwise known as the devil's spawn, running and functional. Almost functional,,, It has all new undercarriage, the brakes and steering clutches are all new and they are perfect , almost. There is a tiny, tiny bit of freewheeling between...

    HD-5 clutch and brakes question

Thanks. That is sort of what I figured. A quick check of the internot showed a clutch set but not much else. I'll call around after the holidays and see what I can find. I don't want to tear it down without parts in hand.

    HD-5 clutch and brakes question

First off I'm a CAT guy. Owner/operator/mechanic. My neighbor has an HD-5 that he wants me to do an engine clutch, brakes and frictions on. Are there any pointers or things to look out for? What kind of time should I expect? Is there a good supplier of quality parts? Thanks in advance.

D4H Series 2 Brake Pedal adjustment

Yes. That will do it. When we were hunting the brake lock problem I'm pretty sure the pedal adjustment was changed trying to unlock the brakes. THANKS!!

D4H Series 2 Brake Pedal adjustment

I'm still working on the D4H. I have the park brake and trans issues fairly well sorted out. My question is to the linkage adjustment of the foot brake. Is there an actual procedure as to lengths or is it by pedal position? Pressure adjustments? They don't seem to grab as hard as I would think...

    CAT D4H WON'T MOVE

Yep I had thought of that. Unfortunately for us we have thousands of bucks worth of fire damage. My buddy was trying to do me a favor by letting me have the 4 for as long as I need it. It's turning into more trouble, time and $$ than I wanted to spend right now. I'm not complaining, it's just a...

    CAT D4H WON'T MOVE

If it was only 100 bucks instead of 400 bucks for a BTS manual I would be all over it!! Like I said above. "ain't my tractor"

    CAT D4H WON'T MOVE

Nige I couldn't agree more. In this case the owner barely has control of the correct end of a crescent wrench. He leaves repair to others and doesn't feel the need for a manual. Me being the recipient of this neglected and beaten old girl ,,, well,,,I don't really want to spend $400.00 bucks for...

    CAT D4H WON'T MOVE

The oil was blacker than black. It didn't smell particularly burnt. It hadn't been changed not the filter serviced in at least 13 years. I don't know how many hours that totaled but it was a ranch tractor that only saw use on weekends and a few days a week occasionally. It was replaced a few...

    CAT D4H WON'T MOVE

Okay. Maybe I was a little over sensitive and didn't take it right. It was the ash part I keyed on. We're just trying to recover from one of the largest wildfires in CA. history, so ash jokes don't set well.

How do fire dozers do it?

On my B, the muffler is partway through the hood. I never thought of using a mesh around it! I have tons of 1/4" mesh. I'm going to be creating a debris screen in the next couple days. Thanks for the idea.

    CAT D4H WON'T MOVE

Here's a photo of the strainer. It's the nastiest strainer I've ever seen. Luckily it has no chunks in it. It all appears to be extremely fine. I'm figuring it's brake and friction material.

    CAT D4H WON'T MOVE

The above comment trying to insult me is out of line and unnecessary. I guess some people just like to see their names in print.
