Case 580D Swing Cylinder Rebuild - Stuck Con Glands - Any tips?

Why use a pipe wrench and mark the crap out of the gland? Can you not use the correct spanner? I had a couple of glands that some person used a punch and rounded the holes out and I took the time to weld them up and used a drill bit and an endmill to clean it up.

    Nope, nope, nope. Serpentine belt.

    Ford 2600 tractor stuck clutch.

All kidding aside, run it into a wall. You will need to get quite rough with it to break it free but it’s been done before. Just need to shock the driveline enough.

    Best fill material

My new house, I did hardscaping wherever there were no gutters. Along with a curtain drain, before I put the 1 1/2 hard scape sone, I put in 6” of topsoil and then fabric so wife could put Hostas every 4‘. under the deck, I put pea stone so it wouldn’t attract misquotes and be easy to take care...

    Case 580SK Swing Tower

Yep, loved the umbrella idea. I might set up one of those canopy’s because some of us have to work on the damn hoe outside, on gravel.

Hydraulic cylinder repack: Do i need a new gland nut?

What I really hate is when you have new seals and you go to use the hoe and it’s wet and you watch the wet rod slide in and the water goes into the cylinder because the rod is dinged up, and it comes out milky.

    Radiator leak

No, there is really no magic trick or treat that is going to fix that in place. Without taking out and cleaning, I would expect that even if it leaking from where you say it is, as soon as you hit that with a torch for soldering all kinds of bad stuff will happen. You could try a piece of split...

    Case580se fuel issue

Almost sounds like your fuel solenoid is weak. Need to relieve a little pressure for it to pull in. Other than that I got nothing.

Hydraulic cylinder repack: Do i need a new gland nut?

Sorry, not communicating correctly. It was completely clean on re-assembly, I believe it was that rust under the rod bearing that caused them to all come off so hard. Not sure if your post was to me or the OP but you are exactly correct.

Did you have to take any of the hoses off. I will be doing this on my E this summer.

Hydraulic cylinder repack: Do i need a new gland nut?

Almost all my glands on my 580 E came off the same way, 5 lb dead blow to the rescue. The inside flat seal they call the bushing, had a lot of rust underneath it from water in my hydraulic oil rusting it, I believe causing it to swell against the rod. I used a flap wheel on a die grinder to...

Case 580D Swing Cylinder Rebuild - Stuck Con Glands - Any tips?

My Case 580 E has little machine screws with 5/16” heads and I believe 8/32 threads. When the heads are broke off and cylinder ends are banged up, they can be hard to spot. One of my stabilizers, PO had rotated it so it was on the inside so I had to take cylinder off and rotate to drill it out...

    Case 580SK Swing Tower

In a you tube video of a Super E a capable young man did the same thing with the engine hoist and used a come along to pull the boom side to side for easy access to the bushings and pins and he had to cut all the bus out and press them all back in.

Case 580D Swing Cylinder Rebuild - Stuck Con Glands - Any tips?

Please make sure there is no broken off screw as all my Case cylinders have had them so far. The stabilizer cylinders had both broken off and they were hard to spot. I drilled them out and the gland nuts spun off by hand with the tool.

    How not to do something

All water heaters life span is directly related to the water they are heating. The difference minerals in the water cause different issues. If you have hard water or introduce lots of oxygen, the liners rot, just like a truck frame rusting. 10 years for most water heaters is good. Some will go...

(REALLY) Stuck Swing Cylinder Pin - 580D

Never seen an extension and would be worried about balance, if they did. The bottom bar and one of the bolts on the bottom of my swing tower are missing on the tapered pins. I’m fairly certain I did that with a rock or 3. Hopefully, it won’t be a pain when I redo all the bushings and pins on the...

Cat 430 lower swing tower pin broke.

Doesn’t look that bad, it’ll buff out. Lol Holes don’t look wallered out.

    Operators too good to clean.

For undercarriage clean out, I always preferred a planting shovel. I think that’s what it’s called, it’s like a long spade shovel, gets in good and being its long, you can pry a bit with it. I also liked to spray some diesel on the tracks and sliders if it was going to be greasy, EPA be damned. Lol
