Is it possible and cheaper to make up cylinder seal kits by ordering individual seals ?

Thanks OzDozer, thats the normal price I'd expect to pay. I forgot to check ebay. The Messicks site says "#sml40456 kit , This part is no longer available, it has been replaced with an updated item, 86581665" . The price of the NH SML40456 was $37 but the new part # is $299. I guess its...

Is it possible and cheaper to make up cylinder seal kits by ordering individual seals ?

I get it that normally its way easier when rebuilding a leaking hydraulic cylinder, to just order the cylinder seal kit. All the necessary and correctly fitting seals are (hopefully) included. If there is a missing seal, just call and the vendor will make it right. But...I have just looked...

Trying to get cab heat working, Case 580se

Amen to that , try and spin the fan with your finger and see if it turns easily and will spin. If the fan is hard to turn and wont spin easily, that's your problem. Maybe if you can shoot some lube on both bearings it will loosen up. Otherwise you'll have to remove it and pull it apart and...

Case 580 SE fuel sender, rebuild or replace

I bought the "Equus 9982 GM Fuel Level Sender" from Amazon for about $25. It works just ok but not perfectly. Its better than nothing because now the fuel gauge moves but its not very accurate. I still have a special thin strip of white oak that is my manual fuel guage for when I really...

Case 580se replace the brake slave cylinder or wait?

The Case 580sk doesn't have an externally mounted slave cylinder like my 580se does but it has the air bleeder screw down in the same hard to reach location. If the cab floor is out, its much easier to access and work on. Consider taking the floor out especially if you have other things that...

    Case 580C brakes

Even with the floor out of the way, working on the brakes for me at least wasn’t easy. Everything is upside down and backwards and you have to reach down for everything so you’re either standing outside and leaning into the cab or sitting on a board in the cab and reaching down to the axle area...

    Case 580C brakes

As mentioned, taking out the seat and the floor is a big pain but the good part is that you now have access to fix so many things: - brakes slave cylinders, bleeding - ebrake, cable, linkage, adjustments - wiring and contact switches for lots of things - the floor itself if it’s rusted I...

555E Assuming this is a ground wire...

Something that i learned when dealing with those braided ground cables is to make sure that the cable end is shiny bright metal clean and the same goes for all the washers, nuts, bolts and especially the steel surface it’s all bolted against. I redid the ground cable attachment once and I...

What thickness metal for floor plates?

Looks real good. Questions: Is it Case brand paint ? How did you apply it brush , spray, roller? What did you thin it with ? What primer did you use? I use Case paint, 3” rollers, thin with a little acetone or naptha, prime with rust oleum rusty metal primer. Recently I’ve been using the...

What thickness metal for floor plates?

I recently cut out badly rusted sections of the cab floor on my 580se and welded in patches of 3/32 diamond plate I had laying around. It seemed an identical thickness. The floor has many supporting frame members and is bolted every 10” to adjacent parts so it’s all very rigid. My main thing...

    Cylinder piston/rod bolt torque values

The problem for most of us diy folks is that we don’t have access to the precession gear to set the torque accurately. Using thread adhesive that requires a ton of heat to disassemble isn’t particularly good for the steel. Those special Nord Lock washers seem like a good compromise.

    Cylinder piston/rod bolt torque values

Nord Lock washers seem like an excellent alternative to using the various grades of Loctite. Need more information on the pros cons . I’m sure someone has tried them in this application of hydraulic rod to piston bolt. After reading about them, the only negative I can think of would be if...

Case 580CK Seat Belt replacement & cushion replacement?

Each side of the seat belt on my 580se is bolted in two places: at the seat cushion bucket and on the lower seat carriage. The belts are Not bolted to the floor. They made em both ways but I’m not sure why.

Lucas cav injection pump high rpm all the time

There are many technical documents for those pumps online. These workshop manuals and user guides give a lot of info about all aspects of those pumps.
