1968 Case 580 CK barely moves. Seeking shuttle filter and drain bolt locations

Ok, think I have enough info to go forward, so I'm sharing it. This link given to me earlier from Tinkerer (thank you) Anyone having a machine that won't tackle any inclines whatsoever, check out Section 6202 Power Shuttle and Torque Converter Maintenance Operation & Troubleshooting, and in...

1968 Case 580 CK barely moves. Seeking shuttle filter and drain bolt locations

So, the Saga continues... With your help, we've found and identified 2 of 3 Hex Nut dipsticks. First, the Differential Hex Nut 12" dipstick(rear of cab under seat slightly left of center), a 2nd Hex 6" dipstick inches away from the Hi/Low Shifter in the front of the cab... and this 3rd 6"...

580ck backhoe clutch power shuttle issues

Thank you Grady. I drained the differential and added the proper amount of gear lube. The location next to the shifter, I had already changed a few weeks ago, but I put gear oil there as well, so I'll be draining that and refilling it with TCH (HyTrans) today or tomorrow. Thanks for your...

1968 Case 580 CK barely moves. Seeking shuttle filter and drain bolt locations

I will take the top cover off and inspect the gears, thank you. As for the spot forward of the gear shifter, mine has a Mechanical Shuttle, I was advised by a counter guy at Case to put Lube Oil in there as well, which I think is wrong. Got a second opinion from a different Case dealership...

580ck backhoe clutch power shuttle issues

Could someone please confirm that it is Lube Oil (like 85/140W or similar grade) that goes in both Hex Dipsticks in the picture below, please. The 12" hexnut dipstick at the bottom left of pic under the Seat (screwdriver pointing to it) is I think the differential. The forward right side hex...

1968 Case 580 CK barely moves. Seeking shuttle filter and drain bolt locations

Case dealership counterman told me that Gear Lube 85W140 ($176 a bucket) needed to go in the aft hex fill hole under the seat, as well as the forward hex fill hole next to the Hi/Low shifter. He also said, and I found this puzzling, that its the same chamber... but that doesn't make sense...

1968 Case 580 CK barely moves. Seeking shuttle filter and drain bolt locations

Hello helpful people... Coy and Tinkerer, thanks so much for your help. I just returned from our build site property. I removed the Seat, and metal floorboard, and there it was... above the rear axle area... another Hex shaped dipstick, maybe 10-12" long. Whatever fluid goes in here, its...

1968 Case 580 CK barely moves. Seeking shuttle filter and drain bolt locations

WOW! Just Wow, that is absolutely the most detailed manual... the previous owner provided a manual in 3 binders with only a tiny fraction of the detail. Thank you so much. I'm having my coffee, scrolling through it page by page and have printed about 30 individual pages that will be very...

580ck backhoe clutch power shuttle issues

Ok well thank you very much. Fairly certain there is an inch or more of play in the clutch pedal, but will double check. I remember reading on other posts here on how to adjust that. Would be nice if its that simple. My understanding is that the clutch is a costly replacement, but less than...

580ck backhoe clutch power shuttle issues

Wow, fast response, thank you. Here are the numbers from my manual: Tractor 33 4198508 Backhoe 26 5002409 and 580CK 8657611. On the cover of the binder holding the manual together it reads 580CK 8657611 with "case580cksmi Version 1.0a" typed below that number. Have posted...

1968 Case 580 CK barely moves. Seeking shuttle filter and drain bolt locations

I've read through many threads that relate to my problem. It scares me to think the issue could be clutch related... $$$, but I've tried the suggested remedies with some success and would like to cancel the clutch out by attending to the fluids first... I'm now stuck, so I'm doing a new post...

580ck backhoe clutch power shuttle issues

I am very interesting in how this was resolved, my situation is the same. Bought my 1968 580 CK 3 months ago, have operated it for about 8-10 hrs, found myself having to rock it back and forth on the slightest of inclines, and pulling myself onto level ground with the hoe. I changed most of...
