    Cat 416C Dead Electrical

I know, resurrecting a dead thread but I felt I was leaving some folks in the lurch. Yes, all was good to go again back then. I have since killed the tranny... But that is another story.

    Cat 416C Dead Electrical

Well son of a gun! Turns out I am not the first owner to put in a hidden kill switch. After all this time I must have bumped it when getting my stuff out to put in my garage. I guess I secretly felt like tearing the wiring apart. :Banghead

    Cat 416C Dead Electrical

Ok, pulled out the bolt, cleaned the threads, wire brushed the area, put a new washer and screwed it back in. No dice. If I have the lights switched on the interior lights go on and off as the bolt is out back in but nothing else. I wonder if some other contact is bad. It is acting like it does...

    Cat 416C Dead Electrical

Think it could have suddenly lost contact perhaps? I will check that out. I recall now somebody once mentioned that as a trouble spot.

    Cat 416C Dead Electrical

I was just using the machine, stopped to shut a garage door with the unit running, turned around and it died. Electrical failure of some description. Batteries are fine, I tried moving relays around in case one went bad out of the blue.. checked for loose wires etc. at the key switch... nothing...

    '97 Cat 416C Roading issue (Won't exceed 15kph)

mailtrain: Seems to be a whole whack of possible causes... ah the fun. Cmark: Actually when searching for the source of a fuel leak I did notice that the governer lever adjustment screw doesn't actually hit the stop... it is perhaps 1/8" from it with the throttle fully applied. Thanks...

It was a thought, but no it's single range.

    '97 Cat 416C Roading issue (Won't exceed 15kph)

Perhaps the tranny and/or rear diff fluid is the issue, seems to be a common thought. (And I cannot speak for what was used... however the dealer I bought it from is actually going to be in town tomorrow and will stop by to check it out. I don't think he is going to be as friendly when I rhyme...

    '97 Cat 416C Roading issue (Won't exceed 15kph)

I wish I had a warm shop... I may have to wait until temps come up a bit. Seems to top out at 1900 regardless of gear... although I have seen it jump to ~2300/2400 momentarily. Engine is the cat 3054 turbo. I checked on the price to rebuild the outrigger at the local Cat shop.. $800... so...

    '97 Cat 416C Roading issue (Won't exceed 15kph)

Hey John, thanks for the info! Indeed, there is talk of a return to the hot air from the hill shortly... with some luck it is a mass release from a deflating coalition. I have run the machine only three times since it showed up... twice for a quick bit of snow removal (Never left 2nd gear) and...

    '97 Cat 416C Roading issue (Won't exceed 15kph)

Should do ~21 mph. Picture 10mph in 4th... it's not effective. I've never seen anything like it... at first I didn't care that the radio wasn't working but after a while you wish you had something other then your own cursing to hear.

    '97 Cat 416C Roading issue (Won't exceed 15kph)

Hey there, I am new to the forum although not entirely new to Backhoes and other tractors. I purchased a 1997 Cat 416C IT (Turbo) a month ago and due to the cold weather I have just now begun to check it out more thoroughly/Use it. Well I am finding a ton of issues that I did not notice...

Hmmm.... from that angle is it actually attached or just sitting in front of it? Interesting idea though...

    What Equipment Have You Operated?

Not a whole lot unless I can remember all of the makes/models of farm tractors etc. as a youngster... which I cannot. Case 580 JCB 1400B Cat 416C (My current new to me machine which is not working so hot... I want my JCB back)
