Perkins 404C Engine Throttle control Question

This particular Perkins diesel is on a Cooks Sawmill, and dates back to around 2007. At the "back" of the fuel pump, there are two "levers". One is the throttle, easily identified. The other, which looks similar in shape and size but seems to only have two positions (maybe on and off?) is...

    Cat D6C/D/H vs. 2003 Deere 750C ?

Looking to buy a medium sized dozer for mostly forestry work and some grading of existing roads. Not much stump removal, mostly clearing skid roads, skidding logs, grading gravel roads after the heavy equipment chews them up. Was pretty far down the road on a D6C or D (or maybe an H) - my...

How hard to add a 6 way blade to a D6H?

Doesn't it always! If you don't know what problem you are trying to solve, it is very hard to solve it... My real issue is that I don't really know what problem I am trying to solve, because I have never run a crawler before. I have several wheeled tractors, from a 60 HP Kubota MX6000 up to a...

How hard to add a 6 way blade to a D6H?

Yeah, a 517 or 527 would be ideal, but WAY out of my price range. The machines currently under consideration (ie I can afford them) are a late model (3306T, 11k serial number) well maintained D6C with winch, a high drive D6H with grapple (guessing aftermarket), and a purpose built forestry...

How hard to add a 6 way blade to a D6H?

Looking for my first dozer. Need something mid-sized, mostly going to use it for cleaning up and putting in roads, and some forestry work, mostly skidding. So I'm looking at D6 class machines with either a winch or grapple, which limits my choices considerably, esp in the D6H's. It feels to...

Mount a hydraulic winch on a Cat 966C?

I have a 966C with forks that I use for logging - mostly decking and loading. I saw a local guy with a wheel loader that he had mounted a hydraulic winch on - in the front, so that it pulled into the forks - and that looked like a pretty sweet setup for doing some limited cable skidding...

    45hp vs. 90hp trencher?

I have a bunch of general purpose trenching to do at my ranch, laying 2-3" water lines and direct burial power distribution lines underground mostly. I will probably dig 2 miles of 6" trench in the next year. Probably don't need anything bigger than 6-8". 4-5' deep is plenty deep. My soil is...

Heat related problem with Komatsu PC35MR-2

I will take some pics tomorrow and post them. Turns out this machine has three fuel pumps. Maybe everyone knew that except me lol. An electric pump to get fuel out of the tank. It is positioned between the water separator and fuel filter behind the engine, and is very easily accessible. An...

Heat related problem with Komatsu PC35MR-2

Ok, I have made some progress, but am definitely stumped. I tested the Main Relief Valve, and it appears to function normally. I also tested the LS valve (the differential pressure valve that controls the variable output pump), and it also appears to function normally. By "function normally"...

Heat related problem with Komatsu PC35MR-2

Turns out that there is neither a spec for fuel pressure in the Shop Manual, nor a procedure for measuring it... Anyone have a sense of what proper fuel pressure might be?

Heat related problem with Komatsu PC35MR-2

Right! Very helpful. On this machine, that TVC valve is called the LS valve. They ask you to measure the differential pressure using the special gauge that you mentioned. I tried to buy one, but can't find one for a reasonable price. So I will do as you suggest, and measure with two gauges...

Heat related problem with Komatsu PC35MR-2

Yep, I have both the Shop Manual and the Operations and Maintenance Manual. There is a diagnostic procedure in the Shop Manual for "engine speed lowers extremely or engine stalls" - that is where I started (and why I measured the main relief pressure as my first step).

Heat related problem with Komatsu PC35MR-2

My first instinct was fuel or air too! But the shop manual wants me to diagnose the hydraulics first, and my gut says that that is consistent with the actual behavior of the machine. That said, I had a generator with too much oil in the crankcase, and it would die in just this same way if you...

Heat related problem with Komatsu PC35MR-2

The data plate and placards are in English, which is no guarantee but suggests that the original destination market was the US. Also, I know this machine was owned by a local municipal government originally, which again argues against grey market. I can post a picture of the data plate if that...

Heat related problem with Komatsu PC35MR-2

Thanks for the reply John. Serial # is 09865. Machine is a PC35MR-2 . Canopy, no cab. This machine appears to have a single pump, with a single piston, but it has two output ports. I do not believe that there is a second, separate, hydraulic pump. The problem occurs when any hydraulic...

Heat related problem with Komatsu PC35MR-2

I recently bought a used PC35 with about 3,000 hours on it. I knew that it had this issue when I bought it, and I got an appropriate discount, but now it is time to diagnose and repair. I am very handy, but have zero experience with this kind of hydraulic equipment. The machine works fine...
