    C9 hole in block. How??

We had a 140M doing that here, it was still under warranty. I think it was 10 years ago so my recollection may be foggy - there is a hose or line that runs from the flywheel housing back to the sump. It had been kinked when it was installed new, and would slowly fill the engine full of...

    NEW Cat 150 AWD

It got bad when Hewitt took Atlantic's autonomy, and worse when Toromont took over Hewitt. It's publicly held as opposed to privately owned, and has to show a profit. Very little kept in stock.

    2008 730 cat rock truck

Not sure how close they are to a 735 but we had a few AWR-B1N's in the area have the drive gear for the trans pump fall off, and cause that problem. Unfortunately it's inside the transmission. It's a long time ago, I don't remember the details...

    SIS 2.0 problems?

There was something in the announcements section about setting printing preferences in Chrome to make things work properly. That might be your issue. It was \: IMPORTANT PRINTING INFORMATION: One time update needed to display content when printing. Chrome users: Settings (3 dots in top-right...

Do you loathe parts guys sometimes? Do you wonder if major manufacturers really have it together?

Now they've got SIS 2.0 and it's really obtuse. Our local dealer has been on it for a while and it's lead to quite a few issues with parts orders.

    Cat Power train upgrade

We just replaced a head and gasket in our 345B - 19000 Hr and never apart before. Crosshatching still in the liners. Head was cracked between the intake valves (I think) but the reason the head came off was the oil sampling showed traces of coolant in the oil. It was leaking internally by the...

CAT 3116 in GMC Topkick extremely low on power

IIRC some of those TopKicks had inline fuel filters located on the frame rail between the tank and engine. Just a little silver can thing. I've seen one 3116 HEUI. It had a really goofy HEUI pump, like a round can with a nut on the top.

    4.6 Triton

If you take it for a drive does it get hot really quickly, or the temperature gauge bounce around a lot?

    Dump trailer hydraulics. General question.

If you could find out what is on it for a wet line kit that'd be a help. We have a few trucks that haul both trailers with single and double acting cylinders. For the dump trailer only the pressure line gets hooked up. They turn on the PTO, and use the control to raise. I think there's...

    4.6 Triton

You'd probably have bubbles in the coolant tank and it would pressurize very quickly if it were a cracked head or head gasket. Also, if it is coolant you would know it - coolant steam hangs around a lot longer than water steam.

Caterpillar SIS. Tricks and tips, questions and answers.

The dealer here has had it for a while, but I just got access to it this week. Reminds me of something optimized for a tablet or phone. Doesn't seem to keep a history of serial numbers you have put in, or a list of your machines. I have heard of a few issues with the search not working as...

Champion 720 '88 liners and crankshaft

It might be worth getting set up with Cummins Quickserve if it's available in Chile. I've set it up for our 4 Cummins engines here, and it gives parts and service info for no cost if I remember correctly. I think it was done through a local Cummins corporate dealer.

930G lift, tilt functions won’t work

Could it be the hydraulic lockout? Does it have the red lever on the right hand console?

What grease are you guys using for bucket pins, pivots, etc?

We had Irving Moly 3 (I think) that went bad. We suspected it was old - it went gummy and lumpy and wouldn't go through the grease guns. We've been using Cat Extreme Application Grease (5% Moly), #2 in summer and #1 in winter for all the pins, bushings and slow-speed joints. Ball and roller...

    CAT com III

Hey, I can try and fill you in on the little I know, and it gets a bit confusing.- We have a mixed fleet - Mostly Cat, with a few Cummins truck engines and some Volvo articulated trucks. I use a laptop with Cat ET, Cummins Insite, and Volvo Tech Tool. As far as cables and hardware go, I use a...

CAT 320D 2L not reving nicely at fully throttle position 10.

Our 345B had a similar issue. Would go to 10, but not rev past about 7. Turned out to be someone left the tank plug loose after adding oil, and would not build pressure. Once the pressure built up it was fine. There was an indicator lit up for it, but wasn't really self-explanatory - a...

    Hyd. End

We've had success replacing steel lines with hoses when in a pinch. Would that work?
