555E Wheel bearing preload torque spec

The torque that it takes to break free a bolt installed for ~25 years will not be an accurate measure of the real torque that the bolt got new. It may, however, show you that the spec is waaay to high in the manual.

Arc welder to loosen a link pin, without removal ?

I have heard of people using their favorite penitrating/rust removing oil. Perhaps use the item below to injuec it and let it sit between applications (with fingers crossed...LOL). It does look doable to get the pin out, just a bit of work.

    Case 580E stabilizer rebuild

well that sucks! I am hoping you disconnected the hydrsulic hoses from the cylinder, or at least the back one. That will make it tough to get the rod out. It sounds like you have bigger problems tho. There is a recent conversation about straightening the rod on here. Can have one made as well.

Case 580D Swing Cylinder Rebuild - Stuck Con Glands - Any tips?

Thanks for the update! Some frown on the pipe wrench marks, but the pipe wrench will do the job, and as you mentioned, it does not hurt the gland. I am glad it all worked out for you!

    Different opinions

I think that their is some merit to his comments. Many have sat in a machine that just "fit" us. This is a great example of why many brands exist. Lets face it, most all machines do the same task in todays world, so, why not get a machine that feels rite to you.

    580M Bell Housing Hole

A small wire wheel on a dremmel. If you dont have a dremmel, put a little wire wheel in a drill. Drinnling a hole in the moddle of a plug, it it is the correct type of thread, would be the best bet. I would insert a cotter pin prior to installing the plug, and bend the wings from the bottom. As...

Republic Oil 5% Moly #1 Heavy Duty High Temp Grease

I ordered a similar product from Amazon. It was in a 5 gallon pail. Was previously using the Schaeffer Manufacturing Co. 02212-040 Moly Ultra EP Grease, NLGI #2, 40 lb. Pail Scheaffers was over $300, and the Republic is just over $100. For me it was a no brainer...heck I bought 3 5 gallon...

New member - advice on used backhoe

Look at the front hubs. If it is 2 wheel drive you will have bearins only. With 4 wheel drive, you will have a planitary gear. This cover is much larger, and will have plugs in it, for the oil, fill/drain/check. Inside the cab you will see a switch if it has 4x4. I would make sure it wirks too...
