2014 Cummins QSB 4.5 immediate shutdown after start

Yep, I had a bunch of "green" copper as well coming out of the deutsch connectors in the ECM. I won't lie, I'm considering rebuilding the wiring harness using proper marine grade wire if/when I have the thing apart rehabilitating the inside.

    Home shop hydraulic test tools?

Hey everyone, I'm about to start researching some hydraulic test tools for troubleshooting/diagnosing machines. I'm thinking something like a dial pressure gauge, flow meter, etc. Does anyone have a test set they like? The budget would be commensurate with a non-professional home user...

2014 Cummins QSB 4.5 immediate shutdown after start

Resolution: it turns out that corrosion got into the ECM and it needed to be replaced. I wound up having to take it in to my local Cummins service center and they were able to put some diagnostic tools onto her that showed them erratic voltage.

2014 Cummins QSB 4.5 immediate shutdown after start

That's a good idea! I assume I would also be able to see the fuel separator glass empty out as well... Guess my wife will enjoy some troubleshooting in the skid steer ha ha.

2014 Cummins QSB 4.5 immediate shutdown after start

It has gotten a little colder, but the lows have been above freezing up until now. The fuel in the water separator looks perfectly clear to me, and full.

Thanks for the reply! My fuel actuator is a two-wire.

2014 Cummins QSB 4.5 immediate shutdown after start

Hey everyone, My little "Gayle" (GEHL V400) has been running great up until a week ago when it got really cold and the battery died. Tried a few boosts, but ultimately took the battery out to charge it. Put it back in and all was well. A few days later I offloaded a pallet off a flatbed...

    batteries

I just had this happen on my hummer that has two AGM duralast batteries in it. But, that thing had sat for a number of weeks without its normal tender.

Do you keep a battery tender on it to get that kind of lifespan?

Help: what kind of corrosion/chemical is this???

Yeah it's gross -- it has a certain smell to it. It's nice to get it out of the tub and have the thing airing out. It seems like it has a fairly slow activation time when in contact with moisture so at least I have a bit of working time when pressure washing the inside of the tub. I'm trying...

Help: what kind of corrosion/chemical is this???

Here is an up close look at the "sick" inside my poor skid steer. Before you comment about the bondo, I'm using this as an opportunity to practice some body work on something that "doesn't really matter". I want to see how well, and how robust I can repair corrosion.

GEHL w/ Cummins QSB4.5: do you replace water separators at some interval?

Ok - thanks guys. I'll start replacing the fuel separator and filter elements together next service interval.

GEHL V400: faulty water sensor (pink diesel?!)

Hello all, I'm nearly through my first 1000hr service on my new-to-me V400 and upon changing out the fuel filter I noticed the water sensor wasn't plugged in. This was the way the previous owner left it, and didn't tell me. When I plugged it in the machine detects water in the fuel. There...

GEHL w/ Cummins QSB4.5: do you replace water separators at some interval?

I wonder if the process depicted in this YouTube video is what is at play here...

GEHL w/ Cummins QSB4.5: do you replace water separators at some interval?

Hey All! I'm in the middle of doing a 1000hr service (that's basically everything) on my GEHL V400. I was getting ready to do the fuel filter and noticed that this machine has a separate water separator--as opposed to a drain right on the fuel filter itself. This is handy because the...

Help: what kind of corrosion/chemical is this???

Thanks for the advice, it really gets you to thinking... It seems more practical to simply apply some type of oil or anti-rust protectant (Amsoil Metal Protector) that is easy to apply, and just do it periodically--like every 1000hr service or annually.

Help: what kind of corrosion/chemical is this???

You are saying the lift arms you removed weighed 6000lbs?!? Damn that's heavy.

Help: what kind of corrosion/chemical is this???

I agree with that sentiment. In the near term, I mainly want to stop the rust on the hydraulic lines and fittings--and get the remaining fertilizer residue out from inside the machine. In the long term, if I ever muster up the willpower and desire I'll pull out the engine and hydraulics and...

Help: what kind of corrosion/chemical is this???

Thanks for the advice. I found the rust-remover gel did the same thing: turned the rust and whatever else into black sludge, that stunk really, really bad.
