Don't put all your boom out, then retract jacks and try to drive with a load.

//it happens. My early days on a crane,a 20 ton Grove rt brand new arrives at the shop. Shop super says anyone know how to run this thing. As a young welder back in the 70 s of course I volunteered. My scare was was trying to pack the machinery deck of a 7220 American to the upper yard behind the...

How many times have youlowered a nice 20 ft bridle chain down to reach those ring hooks and had to watch the rigger trying to untangle it from everthing sticking out of your load, really fun with 1/2" chain.

I like chain bridles,i keep 2 5/16"x 12' 2leg bridles and 2 1 ft s with a grab hook on each end for shorteners to balance loads. The bridles with the adjusting hooks on the ring seemed like a good idea until you have lowered the ring a few times and tangled the bridle chain on whatever sticks...

    40Ton American at work

Yes Mowingman I lowbed most of the time distances and hills make it more efficient. If I drive I need to use my lowbed for the counterweight anyhow as well as go thru the motions of removing and putting it back on.I haul enough boom on my goose neck trailer for 90 feet ,then ive got a pickup on...

    40Ton American at work

Yes the 40 t0n has a torque.it works well when you stall it a bit with another function, you can very precise when lowering or booming down. Its too bad theres such a stigma on conventional cranes on jobsites these days. You can rebuild them over and over, they burn very little fuel.and can...

    40Ton American at work

sorry I clicked too many times. And no the boom isn't bent,i put a link in the top pins to lower it a bit and stay underheight on the lowbed. Its an easy way to bring 10 more feet of boom to the site.

I gotta say my favorite is a Vulcan air hammer. I can say that now because its been years since we ve used one and forgotton the noise, broken parts and fuel bills for those 900 compressors.

The rocks look like a nail biter, nice job.Last airplane I did was a rush job off the barge,it was a Beaver that punctured a float on landing. They had a nice spreader hook setup that fit the aircraft. We lifted him up they used sika flex and tin to patch it as we held it.We dropped him back in...

    1966 P&h 215tc

Good to see these older machines still in use where you are. They are a hard sell out here in BC.Watch the carrier axles when your loading, after breaking and welding them a couple of times that was the demise of my 325 TC.I still have a jib ,two full booms, hydraulic outriggers, and a few things...

    A few random pictures

Nice looking setup on the dock job.Your right why hurry and be haywire when you charge by the hour. The jib on that conventional in the farmers yard looks unusual, are there no backstays or don't they show in the picture?never seen a cantilever jib on a conventional. Merry Christmas
