    Completely new at this :/

For what it's worth I bought a Case 580C a few years ago for $5000, in the full knowledge that it needed some not insignificant work on the pins and bushings in the swing tower (that's British understatement for you ), a shuttle rebuild, some work on the engine, and it had no working brakes...

case 580C rear transmission drain location , oil spec

In my experience one of the most common places for water to enter the transmission (on tractors in general) is the rubber boot at the base of the gear shift lever. Seems like a surprising amount of rain can get in if that doesn't fit well.m

case 580C rear transmission drain location , oil spec

There's a drain plug located under the transaxle, more or less centrally... See attached (from the 580C operator's manual.)

    no oil pressure

I'm no Bobcat expert, but I'd always temporarily plumb in a known good mechanical gauge under these circumstances to help see what's really happening...

    What's your hoe doing?

Sometimes a little too much! Like yesterday... The farm was full of police for most of the day because the village shop had been robbed by armed bandits, and the bandits were hiding in the bush just behind my place... Their getaway motorcycle broke down and so they had to make their escape on...

    What's your hoe doing?

After 18 months, a lot of repairs and a lot of $$$ (but still within my estimated budget, more by luck than planning I think...) my cheap 580C is no longer as cheap as it was (but that was part of the plan - I have plenty of time to put into it, which means I can do the repairs myself very...

Max grade for a Case 580B

My 2WD 580C will back up pretty much anything I point it at... Would be a lot more comfortable if the brakes worked, but that's for another day... My property is generally steep enough that reversing up some parts just feels more comfortable on both the backhoe and tractor.

    Winter repairs.

It really makes you wonder what people are thinking sometimes... Takes some dedication to let it get that badly worn!

    Winter repairs.

Fixing this appalling mess... Swing tower bushing bore repair on a Case 580C. It has just a little bit of play in it right now...

    What's your hoe doing?

Mine's taken up gardening. There's a Case 580C under there... Things grow so fast here!

    580c pins replace

Very good info here; I'll be doing this on my 580C soon... Makes it seem doable if still daunting!

    Hello from Belize

Engine and transaxle are good. starts easily every time, plenty of power. Needs work on the shuttle and brakes... Couple of cylinders leaking, some wear in pins and bushings. Hydraulics seem generally OK. I've found the manuals already - very helpful. Plenty of reading to do... Looking forward...

    Hello from Belize

That's what I'm hoping! I do most of the work on our trucks and tractor - looking forward to getting this thing running better and putting it to work. Plenty to learn...

    Hello from Belize

Hello - Adam from western Belize here. Just acquired a somewhat neglected Case 580C for use around our farm (and for doing odd jobs for other farmers in the village). I've already learned so much from reading posts on the forum - many thanks to all!
