    Can I tow a mid 80s JD 690

I have a mid 80s excavator. Engine blown on top of a mountain. 2 questions 1) can I tow it with my JD450 down to where I can work on it? 2) if the answer is yes should I remove the track drive chains (would leaving them on damage the drive motors or main hydrau pump?) I'm a gold miner not a...

Sullair 375 Compressor with John Deere Diesel

Well.......... So I thought we had it fixed, and about to put 25# in it and shoot it. We drained the compressor oil to proper volume. We have replaced all sensors except the oil temp sensor on the compressor. We cleaned the "Oil return" line filter (it was about 90% plugged. Topped off coolant...

Sullair 375 Compressor with John Deere Diesel

Uhhhhh, figured it out. My "guy" recently did a service on it (at my request). All new filters, oli, compressor oil. The compressor was tilted to the right (uneven ground) and when he refilled compressor oil because of the angle of the machine put in 3.5 gallons too many....when I realized he...

Sullair 375 Compressor with John Deere Diesel

So I did switch out the sensors and it does seem like there is an issue. The sensor is now working properly in that when we fire up the lights for the SSAM are not flashing (they were before), we can run about 3 hours and then is shuts down with the "Compressor Temp" flash warning and YES its...

Sullair 375 Compressor with John Deere Diesel

Thanks a ton, yes we been working on it today and I strongly think fuel issue, we do get 4 flashes for "Low speed" as the error on the shut down module. There was a "Black Gunk" (almost like tar) in the bottom of the tank and the first fuel filter. We have replaced both fuel filters and...

Sullair 375 Compressor with John Deere Diesel

I have a compressor, about 8k hours. Running fine for past 3 years and now have a weird issue and hoping for some insight. I can fire it up first thing in the morning and it will run about 30 minutes or so, then it just dies suddenly like its a fuel issue (in fact it REALLY seems like a fuel...

Hydraulic oil temp older Kobelco sk300 Mk 4

Ran today with engine hood open and hottest it got was 162 degrees! So definitely an issue of engine heat being pulled through pump bay Thanks everyone Dave

Hydraulic oil temp older Kobelco sk300 Mk 4

Been a while since hydraulic oil changed and there are NO heat shields, I don't even see place to mount one so Im going to fabricate a barrier and insulate it. I tried to find picture online of this machines engine compartment and couldn't. The service manual doesn't list a heat shield...

Hydraulic oil temp older Kobelco sk300 Mk 4

The 180 I mention is degrees farenheit (not displacement). No heat shield between pump bay and tank either, just airflow from motor passing through the bay and the left wall of the tank is the right side of the pump bay. dave

Hydraulic oil temp older Kobelco sk300 Mk 4

There is NO shield between engine and pump bay, its a wide open space and all air drawn from fan goes right through (been that way for 2 years since I bought it). I don't know enough about excessive bypass, I'm just an idjut gold miner. And yes by bottom pipe I mean the 4" pipe going from tank...
