    What's your hoe doing?

I moved a heavier rock last year and did fill the backhoe bucket and had to extend the backhoe in order to keep the back wheels on the ground. But that was all on more level ground. The uneven ground is the issue now. I've got it almost out of the forest and onto a trail. There's one big...

    What's your hoe doing?

Trying to move a very big boulder with a Case 580SL. I've moved it about 150' so far on 3 tries. It's pretty hilly and uneven land. Almost tipped over sideways once and I had to lower and dump it. The 2 other times it just fell foreward out of the bucket. I need to move it about another...

    Timing Belt

Have you considered doing the work yourself? I watched a few youtube videos and replaced the timing belt and water pump on my 2002 Honda a couple years ago. The most difficult part was making sure that the timing belt was properly lined up because one of the gears kept moving as I was putting...

Rut Mnf - Disk Mulcher Vs Tree Slayer

I didn't get the Tree Slayer with the mulching teeth because it weighs more and there are a lot of rocks here. On my machine I lock the auxiliary switch on when using it. Don't think you'd want to hold in in manually.

Rut Mnf - Disk Mulcher Vs Tree Slayer

Yes, with the disc mulcher you do have to swap them out. I believe with the tree slayer if you get the mulcher option you get a different heavier carrier that has some mulching blades on the bottom of it. I've got the tree slayer on a bobcat e50 with about 20gpm and it easily handles 3"-4" trees.

Rut Mnf - Disk Mulcher Vs Tree Slayer

I went with the Tree Slayer. The 2 main reasons were that it is wider than the mulcher and there are a lot of rocks on/in the ground here and that would ruin the mulching teeth if I got too close to the ground. I use it for brush cutting the sides of ponds, making and maintaining trails and...

Case Back hoe Length of hydraulic hose

I've got a 580SL Extendahoe and the parts manual shows the length of all the hoses. Maybe someone with the 580Sk manual could give you the info. For the 580SL, the lengths are 77-1/8" and 76".

    Asphalt Roller for Soil Compaction?

I think that roller could do everything you need except the backfill against the foundation. You won't be able to get very close to it and it will start to tip towards the foundation as it compacts. As far as the other areas, as long as you don't try to compact more than about 3-4" at a time...

    Case 1840 questions

I got the same answer today when I tried to order some HTO fliud from a dealer. They read me the memo from Case. Hopefully somebody will come up with an alternative.

Accidentaly added 80/90 gear oil to hydraulic tank

Thanks for the replies, I checked the 80/90 bucket and calculated that I used about .7 of a gallon. I'll do like Tinkerer suggested and put in around the same amount of 10w.

Accidentaly added 80/90 gear oil to hydraulic tank

Yes, I'm an idiot. I was adding hydraulic fluid to my 580sl and needed a new 5 gallon can. So I just grabbed a new traveler's brand pail from tsc that I had and opened it up and put the pump in it. After putting in a gallon or so I noticed that the fluid was going in slower that usual. It's...

580sl Boom cylinder check valve question

I'm planning on putting new seals on the boom cylinder. I was looking at the service manual and it says to remove the check valve, which is mounted on the piston and reinstall it using Loctite 345-49. I can't find any reference to that online. Anyone know what I should use? I'm thinking...

580sl. Does this Hyd. Cyl. piston need to be replaced?

Had to use a machine to get the piston bolt loose. The 1" air impact didn't do it so I tried a longer pipe, about 12' long with approx. 320 lbs of weight on the end. That didn't do it so I ended up using a skid steer to apply the force. Hope I don't need to do that again. Got the cylinder...

    Loctite 345-49 Equivelent?

The case service manual calls for Loctite 345-49 to be used on a hydraulic cylinder relief valve. I can't find it anywhere online. The relief valve is inside the cylinder mounted to the piston. What should I use? I was thinking maybe Loctite 545? Thanks, Doug

580sl. Does this Hyd. Cyl. piston need to be replaced?

Finally got the bump ground down. Used a dremel with a flexible shaft-pencil tip(not sure what it's called). Extremely slow going since I couldn't see what I was doing. I can barely feel a little bump there now.

580sl. Does this Hyd. Cyl. piston need to be replaced?

I really wouldn't mind losing about 1.75" of travel on the dipper. I rarely extend it all the way on purpose because it pushes against a couple of the metal hydraulic pipes then. I've bent them to get them out of the way, but they always bend back. I assume some of the hoses are the wrong...

580sl. Does this Hyd. Cyl. piston need to be replaced?

I've gone out to the pole barn 3 or 4 times with the intent of starting to grind down the bump with a dremmel, keep talking myself out of it. But as one of the guys said, worse case if I screw something up is that I end up bringing it to a machine shop. Right now I'm thinking that I...
