Hydraulic fluid mixing- ATF and ISO46 oil

I’m flushing all the fluids in my old Hydra Mac and red fluid, assumed to be ATF, drained from my hydraulic reservoir. I was planning to replace it with ISO 46 hydraulic oil but am now concerned with any remaining ATF mixing with the ISO 46. Should I return the oil and use ATF? Perhaps ATF is...

    Pump Drive Oil Type?

Thanks for the advice. I ended up finding a quart of what the manual called for on eBay. ATF is going in the gear drive boxes and I've got some ISO 46 (20 SAE) going into the hydraulic reservoir.

    Help find this part!

Thanks everyone for the feedback that’s helped me narrow things down. It’s a pressure switch, not vacuum, and the rating is 4psi “normally closed.” I found a newer version of the same part for $87(!)...

    Help find this part!

Maybe it is 1/8, looks like 8-9 threads at 1/4 inch, so possibly 27tpi at a full inch. I’m reading 1/4 has 18tpi.

    Help find this part!

The switch doesn’t come apart but I’ve alresdy damaged it enough for it to not be fixable. I believe it could be soldered, though, had I not attempted to take it apart. I’m confused by the NPT sizing at the moment. I measured the OD of the fitting to be 3/8 which seems to translate to 1/8 NPT...

    Help find this part!

Ok I’m going to order a low psi pressure switch. I measured this fitting at 3/8 and was confused as to why I can’t find any similar fitting but then I found a National Pipe Thread chart saying 3/8 diameter equals 1/8 npt which clarifies a lot! I can order a vacuum switch too just in case since...

I’m seeing the part number listed with “4psi” beside it also.

    Help find this part!

I think I found a model number on it after lots of cleaning. I believe it reads “M-4001” then several spaces followed by “ 2 U 2”. I’m still trying to take it apart. I put a hole in the center to see if the inside moves inward or outward but there’s something else behind the initial copper...

    Help find this part!

I’m not 100% sure, I had my mechanic look at the switch and he saw the ground was built into the switch so he gathered it stayed open under vacuum and grounded when pressure was lost. It had a single wire coming out of it and that wire was connected to what the manual calls a “indicator light”...

    Help find this part!

Thanks for the feedback! I actually spoke to a fellow at Hackert today and he was perplexed at what I was referring to. I’d probably have better luck sending them these photos. The machine is a Hydra-Mac “Mitey Mac 8C” and Hackerts claims they have never heard of a Mitey Mac in the 8C size...

    Help find this part!

This was a vacuum switch that would complete a circuit and illuminate a low-pressure light when hydraulic level was low. The part broke off and I can’t find anything about it at all and any help is greatly appreciated. Maybe I can bypass it or get a different gauge?

    Pump Drive Oil Type?

I am going through the drive system on my 1970s Hydra Mac 8c and read in the manual that the pump drive (accepts drive side of coupled shaft from engine) should have "one pint of no. 10 non-detergent oil". I haven't been able to locate this type of oil, but I spoke with Hackert Sales who...

    Repower Suggestions

I went with the Kohler CH730. Can't afford the EFI version but the torque ratings are nearly identical and I am more familiar with the carbed units and honestly haven't had any major issues with them over the last 20 years. Ordered from OPEengines and it should be in this Friday or Saturday.

    Repower Suggestions

I thought about rebuilding it but decided I want a newer unit. The rebuild kit was around 800 bucks and I never even liked it when it was running anyway. I'd mess with the points and it would run OK for a few months, then the temperature would change 10 degrees and it would be back to having...

    Repower Suggestions

I’m restoring a mid-70s Hydra-Mac 8c. It weighs 3200lbs and came with an Onan NHC rated at 25hp. This is the same as an International 4130. I was looking at a Kohler Command 730cc, but wanted to run this past you all in case there are any better suggestions or if more power is recommended...
