    Cat 247b3 AC grinding

Hey guys I have a 2013 cat 247b3 that makes a grinding noise when I turn the ac on. If the ac button is off or if it’s blowing heat it doesn’t make the noise so I know it’s ac compressor or pump related. This year model has the hydraulically driven ac compressor so how do I diagnose if it’s the...

    Cat 247b3 no heat

Finally got around to looking into it and sure enough it was the mixer valve. The knob turned but the valve inside was stuck closed. I ordered a new one and installed it and now I have heat again. I really appreciate the help, thanks.

    Cat 247b3 no heat

Ya that’s true but even if the mechanical valve has failed and the flap is stuck in the closed position wouldn’t the heater core inlet line at least be hot up until it reaches that valve? The problem I’m having is where the inlet line gets cold after like a foot of leaving the thermostat housing...

    Cat 247b3 no heat

I did look at that but on my schematic it is #24 which is part number 231-8126 which appears to be a manual valve that connects to the control knob in the cab

    Cat 247b3 no heat

The coolant level is good, it’s about 1/2 on the overflow tank and I have a pencil line on the tank to mark the level when it’s cold and it’s still at that level and I haven’t had to add any coolant all year. The fan belt is good I had a new one put on this spring and it’s tight. For the heater...

    Cat 247b3 no heat

Hi I’m having an issue where my 247b3 won’t blow heat. I took it out today and ran it to warm it up and then I lifted the cab and felt the two lines coming out of the heater core and they were both cold. So I traced them back to the engine and the hose that comes out of the regulator where the...

    Cat 247b3 hour meter

Ok so I figured it out. I took the alternator off and brought it to a auto electric shop where they tested it for me and they confirmed that it was bad. I had them rebuilt it for me and now the problem is no longer occurring. It is only counting when the engine is running like its supposed to...

    Cat 247b3 hour meter

Ok so I put my multimeter on the W terminal on the alternator with the key off and the engine not running and I am getting voltage there. Does that mean that my alternator is bad?

    Cat 247b3 hour meter

I have a 2013 247b3 and for some reason the hour meter is always counting even when the machine isn’t running and the key is off. I will shut it down at the end of the day and I will come back the next morning and there will be another 10-12 hrs on it from sitting overnight. I unscrewed the hour...

    Tool help

Hey guys thanks for your replies I really appreciate it. I will definitely check out these suggestions. As for a tool list the school did supply me with one but it was very basic, they didn't list if the sockets needed to be 6 or 12. After reading these replies I think I will get 12 point...

    Tool help

Hi guys I'm going to college this fall for heavy equipment operation and maintenance and I'm going to be needing some tools. I got most of my stuff picked out other than the sockets because I'm stuck on 6 point vs 12 point? Which would you guys recommend? Do you see a lot of 12 point bolts in...
