    Searching For General Purpose Bucket

I am searching for a general purpose bucket 3yd-5yd that fits a 966A, 966B, and 966C wheel loader. Would like it to be in good shape and somewhat close to Massachusetts so shipping would not be a killer. Anyone who has one and willing to sell Id be interested in seeing some pictures. Thanks.

Type of Fluids For Old Caterpillar

I am changing the fluids in the rear end, front end, and planetary's. The manual states to use 30w. I took out fill plugs and it smells like 30w not that strong gear oil smell. Should I follow the manual and use 30w? Basically everything in this machine calls for 30w or 10w depending on...

    D333 Engine

Ok Thanks for the advice guys. I got the 7 Gal from my parts manual on the back page it gives a list of all capacities for the machine. Now I started flipping through my operators manual and found all of the capacities are different slightly from the parts book. Both books are for my machine...

    D333 Engine

Ill take that into consideration thanks. Would a 1/2 Gal more or less hurt these old cat engines or is that nothing too worry about?

    D333 Engine

Its the original engine in a 1963 Caterpillar 966A wheel loader.

    D333 Engine

Does anyone know what the oil capacity is on a D333 Caterpillar engine? I read that it is 7 Gal. in manual. That seems too be to much considering I put 6 Gal in to start and it was about a 1/4" below full mark running at low idle. Then added 1/2 Gal to bring it up to 6 1/2 Gal and its a tad over...

    Caterpillar 966A

The tire that kept going flat had a slit in it. So I did a new tire. The exhaust needs some work. The cast Iron piece that comes off the turbo to the manifold then up too the stack needs to be replaced. Had a small hole when I fist looked at it. Every time I start it up it seems to blow more...

    Caterpillar 966A

Update. It was a great success. The crank on the engine was free when I put the breaker bar on it and rotated. Put 2 new batteries in. We put about 6 gal of fuel in since there was nothing in the tank. Cleaned the air filter free of mouse nest and crap also in the stack as well. We tried...

    Caterpillar 966A

No water/coolant in oil. I did find out from the owner it has not been started in 10-15 years though. I am debating whether or not to put the batteries in too see if it will start up and if it does indeed need engine work. There was no fuel inside tank either. Owner is not sure if it does need...

    Caterpillar 966A

Ill pull the drain plug and see how it looks and go from there. If it is full of coolant Ill probably have to walk away. Anyone know how much a machine like this is worth ball park?

    Caterpillar 966A

Thanks for the info guys. So first thing is pull oil stick and inspect oil. Then put the batteries in and fire it up, once it does Ill turn the wheels all the way to one side then go in reverse and listen for clunking. Is there a big universal joint inside the steering axle? There's a gravel...

    Caterpillar 966A

Does anyone no anything about early 60s 966A? Weight of machine, parts availability, etc.? Looking at one right now. Has sat for years. Needs a head gasket. Is that a relatively cheap easy job? Other than that it looks very solid. Very beefy old machine. Crab Steering. Turbo Diesel.

    Hough H50B Questions

Just to update I finally did service the planetary hubs and it was a good decision. Very Dirty sludge like fluid came from the rear planetary hubs and the magnetic drain plug had some fine metal dust from years and years of subtle wear. The front planetary hubs were not as bad. I also serviced...

    International hough M10A Hub seals??

You might have some luck calling Winmill Equipment in New Hampshire. I have been able to get parts up there for my old Hough loader from the 60's. If you have the parts manual for this machine or any numbers that will help a lot when calling. They deal mostly with Hough, Dresser, etc.

Trying to save a Hough 65 from the scrap yard

Yeah Dexron III ATF is what I've been using in my 1963 Hough H 50 B for the last 15 years I've had it, and the guy before me used that as well. I am guessing that's a P 600 transmission. They are very tough transmissions and very forgiving on whatever type of fluid you put in though. We always...

I am pretty sure the 50B has a 1.7 or 2 yard bucket.

    Looking to upgrade

Does anyone know if the Cat 950 is comparable to the Hough H 50 B? From looking at pictures online maybe that model is similar. Also maybe the 644 John Deere is similar in size and work capabilities. Anyone's input would be appreciated.
