CAT J450 and J460 teeth will interchange, right?

I could put them on the milling machine and run a carbide or ceramic tool through them. Carbide burr ball in an air die grinder might work too and be faster. Going to mess with an old one just to see how hard it really is. Just need to weight the time vs savings.

CAT J450 and J460 teeth will interchange, right?

Thanks! That is exactly the sort of thing I was hoping to find out before I went to get them. As always your information is greatly appreciated.

CAT J450 and J460 teeth will interchange, right?

Have a CAT bucket calling for J460 teeth but I can get a killer deal on a stack of surplus J450 teeth a few hours away. From what I can see all places list these as the same size but is there an difference and why did they have 2 series?

Slew bearing oil recommendation Volvo EC390

Yes, that is the machine. Thanks for the input. I’m going to go with the heavier lube since I already have plenty in stock.

Slew bearing oil recommendation Volvo EC390

See my reply to John. This machine is an oil bath slew bearing. Rare thing indeed.

Slew bearing oil recommendation Volvo EC390

I am asking about the oil bath for the swing gear and bearing. Unlike 99% of the machines on the market that use grease Volvo made this model with an oil bath slew gear and bearing.

Slew bearing oil recommendation Volvo EC390

I need to change the oil bath on the slew ring and Volvo gives no spec for it in the service manuals. They tell me 5 gallons but no viscosity. Dealer has the same book and is scratching his head. I’m using, per Volvo spec, 85w-140 GL-5 in the swing reduction unit and final drives. Anybody think...

    Rust converters and rust control

We hit a lot of stuff with Fluid-film and it helps. For repaints Por-15 over a phoshpho rust convertor is pretty good. A really good topcoat like Imron is good with or without the Por-15 underneath. Good quality epoxy primer underneath. Regardless, it is all about the prep work.

277B tracks OEM vs Camso Vs ?

I need to find a set of tracks to fit a 277b that I can put on my ASV MD70. Since nobody sells the 55 lug ASV tracks the conversion is the Cat 277b/ASV 4500 track with 56 lugs. No problem, but OEM or Camso? Not going to get some really cheap aftermarket track with 6 month warranty. $2k per track...

Anyone have a recommendation on equipment to make hydraulic hoses?

I ended up buying a Goodyear/continental unit that is really made by Custom Crimp. They make crimpers for a lot of brands. The nice thing is that it is a universal machine. You set the stroke length which controls the crimp diameter. You do need to know the crimp specs for whatever hose and...

Strategies to deal with vandals and thieves on a jobsite?

Thanks, I just found out that coffee sprayed on an ipad does not really clean it well.

    Orphan Machine brands

I know 2 people that did exactly that. Zero research, but the guy selling it told them “ no problem getting parts” so they bought it. No skills to fix it or even understand the problem. Blunder after blunder on the so called repairs. Duct tape and baling wire would be an improvement. I can’t...

    Orphan Machine brands

More and more these days orphan does not even mean some brand that is no longer available. Manufacturers simply make parts obsolete which as far as I’m concerned make the machine an orphan. 40 years ago you could get parts for some pretty old machines. Now it seems anything over 15 years is...

    My southern neighbours

Most of our politicians have become so disconnected from those they supposedly represent that it is a wonder they can even find their way back here at election time. Our 2 Senators spend most of their time mugging for the cameras about whatever makes good press today. Never mind things...

    My southern neighbours

Our state legislature is heavily controlled by one party and they just increased their numbers. It is so bad that when they make big decisions, budgets etc. they do it behind closed doors and don’t even invite the other party. Yes, they actually locked them out and passed a budget. Our town is...

    My southern neighbours

Totally agree, a blowout would be better. For both sides. You have a winner and loser. Not this oh, maybe stuff. Just makes the divide all the worse.

    Shipping for 500 lb pallet

Look at freightcom.com Had good prices from them in the past. Their website is a little unruly and you need to set up an account but they get rates from a ton of carriers. They were better than going directly to a carrier.

    Best pin grease

238 in #2 or #3 covers anything that isn’t a bearing. Really happy with the performance over the generic sticky red stuff we had before. More $ but I don’t feel like I need to grease it every 3 or 4 hours like I did.

Steam cleaning engine. Machine suggestions? DIY/Homemade suggestions?

We have a unit from Power America (actually a Kärcher) that is temperature adjustable all the way to steam. Pressure to around 3000psi.It replaced an ancient Steam Jenny. We usually run around 190°F and 2000psi. Using a butyl based cleaning solution. The unit was not inexpensive and we did...

Q re Warner Swasey Hopto excavator

First of welcome to HEF. My 2 cents on this is to runaway, unless you are looking for a museum piece to restore. If it works and you have one job for it then plan to scrap it maybe. Parts will not be available. I can say from experience, my barely 20 year old Volvo is quite hard to get parts...
