    7.3 idi blowing smoke

Just an update! It was so so stupid, loose glowplug. That was it. Runs great now, let it run for awhile, and it cleared up the smoke. I think we were tired when we were putting all the accessories on that motor. Thanks everyone for the responses.

New Heavy Haul, Pete or KW?

Good thing you didn't order a T880, company I previously drove for ordered one in November/December. They STILL haven't gotten the thing. Last I heard it is sitting at the factory waiting for one electronic dash part along with 20 or so other trucks.

    7.3 idi blowing smoke

Next weekend I will let it run for a little while and see if it clears up. I'm guessing an injector could be stuck, besides the smoke, it runs friggin great. Here is it starting.

    7.3 idi blowing smoke

I think I will check a lot of things before I touch that injection pump, I hear timing those pumps are a blast.

    7.3 idi blowing smoke

It was complete, I haven't touched the injection pump and I have rode in the vehicle that the donor engine came out of. The engine had a miss from a bad injector, but otherwise it was fine, it did not smoke like this. I took the injectors from my original engine that were new and stuck them in...

    7.3 idi blowing smoke

The glow plugs seem to be working, we replaced the relay and it doesn't have any hard starting issues. It's getting the power it needs. The wait to start light doesn't come on, but you can hear the plugs click on and off. Starts within a second or two.

    7.3 idi blowing smoke

Not warmed up at all, and there may be something to that stuck injector idea. Engine sounds great, but it has a lope that you can feel. So it feels like it is missing but doesn't sound that way.

    7.3 idi blowing smoke

Just put in a 7.3 idi in my service truck, it's blowing a ton of white ish smoke. Seems to be from fuel. The truck still has a few body panels that need to be put on, lights, bumper, etc. It hasn't been driven more than a couple hundred feet since we put the donor engine in. Engine has 160k...

I've never seen a setup like this before.

No start after warm up- idi diesel

I'll check out that harness, and see what the cold start sender tells me. I've got two batteries in there, I re-read what I posted and realized that is an important detail.

No start after warm up- idi diesel

Yeah, it seems to be charging when it runs. Although I haven't tested to be sure, I ran the truck for about a half hour a week ago and let it sit. A week later it cranks right up, until it ran for a bit and warmed up. I'll put a meter on it to be sure.

No start after warm up- idi diesel

I can almost guarantee that it's the original injection pump on there. I'm pretty hesitant to touch that unless that's the only way to get reliable starts outta this jewel.

No start after warm up- idi diesel

I'll take a look at the starter, I've seen that as a common hard start problem for these engines.

No start after warm up- idi diesel

Hey all, I recently bought a 1990 F-450 service truck off Craigslist for $2500. It has either an early 7.3 idi or a 6.9 idi diesel swapped in from an 80's truck as the previous owner threw a rod out the side of the oil pan. I don't know which it is because I can't find a serial # and the...

    Well, I got lucky

The messed up thing is that I also had the service brake lever set when it was on the trailer, and it was in the engaged position as it was rolling down the hill. So I had both the parking brake and service brake set... Would it be possible for the service brake to bleed off while bebop-ing on...

That sounds way more excitement than I want out of a single day.

    Well, I got lucky

I was on the hood of the truck when it happened, so I was along for the ride. It was in my best interest to make it to the cab. I don't think I would have risked it if I were on the ground. None of the things we do out here are worth life or limb.

    Well, I got lucky

I found out that this off road dump trucks parking brake doesn't hold on a hill today. I had the dump truck unchained and was on the hood folding the mirrors back out when the f@#&$* started rolling. I barely made it into the cab and got the truck stopped with the service brake. I was two feet...
