    I'm not ready for winter

I know those of you who live in the snow will laugh at me, but in these parts, a good frost is as cold as it gets. It's only been 2 days, and I'm sick of scraping ice off the crane already.... And of course this old girl doesn't have a working heater

Terex 4010 tilt ram compensating the wrong way

G'day guys, we have on our site a terex 4010 that has been around the block a few times, and somebody has obviously been playing with the hoses as the tilt cylinder is compensating the wrong way when the boom is raised/lowered (When boom is raised, forks tilt up and vice versa) To my amateur...

    Slow week in the office

Currently stuck doing site work since their tower crane was pulled out. Fly and needle at 40° offset, but most of the lifting is done on the main (the fly is only needed to reach the other side of the building). There's a reason I prefer taxi crane work.... Slow days drag and are exhausting!

    Long pants

Unfortunately, due to the Australian and UK influence on our H&S policies, more and more sites every day are requiring long pants to be worn. I've been resisting, because I overheat easily and have always been a shorts and singlet kinda guy, but the time has come. So what are you guys using...

    Rigging failure on panel lift

I was just reading about an incident where a crane was pulled over after the rigging failed whilst pitching a concrete panel. Fortunately, it didn't result in major injuries. I can't quite make it out from the video, but it looks like it might be lifted from steel brackets bolted to the panel...

How do you deal with night shift?

Hey guys. Tonight is my first of a week's worth of night shifts, and as usual I'm finding it hard to adjust. Running a crane on an industrial site maintenance shutdown, so as per, it's more waiting than working. Spent the day trying to sleep but failed miserably, it's now 9pm of a 7-7 shift...

Rented a mini skid steer for the weekend

An Aussie made Kanga. While I was impressed with the capabilities of such a small machine, it left me feeling like I'd gone 10 rounds with Mike Tyson.... Today, I'm walking like an old man and everything hurts (Of course, it's completely possible I've just gone soft from sitting in a crane for...

Is a crane boom a suspended load?

Hey people, I'm just after an opinion on this. At the moment I'm working on a small site with an all terrain crane. The site foreman has stated that the boom is a suspended load and nobody may walk under it, even if the crane is not in use. Now, if I had a load on the hook, then fair enough...

    Finally signed up

G'day all, I've been lurking on this forum for some time and decided to finally create an account. I'm a New Zealander in my late 20s and have been in The construction industry in some form or another for all of my working life. I now work for a mid-large sized crane hire company, which has a...
