No not that one but I was lucky enough to be old enough to spend heaps of time with him, going to get new gear and shifting gear to and from jobs as well as rides and fixing. I don't remeamber the d6c,s but can remeamber the 2nd d6d coming and his first cat215 digger coming to town. Did he have...

    Scraper pics here

Yes he was, he is my grandfather, so I grew up riding on the dozers and diggers, scrapers etc. That era of dozer work has gone now but the farm tracks, county roads and clear hill still shows what was done in the past if you take the time to look! We're you here in Kaikoura?

The one man show to grow

Trentnz Yes the getting in and out to change hoses is a pain but I think the extra 300ish does make a difference to your breakout power, yes the hoses are out there but most of the time when dealing with trees( when hoses get stretched most often ) you run a tooth bucket anyway. I guess it's a...

The one man show to grow

Oh on the past 45deg thing you can cut the walls to any angle with the side of the bucket , I e if you need more than 45deg you tilt the other way and use the cutter bar or side of the bucket as both tilt bucket or tilt hitch that go to 90 deg you still only have as much dig as you have slew...

The one man show to grow

On the tilt bucket/ tilt hitch thing, my two cents on the matter is go with a normal hitch and a tilt bucket over a tilt hitch as when you go to lift sum thing heavy you don't have the extra weight on the end of your stick( drop off your bucket all together or lift with your dig bucket) when you...

    CAT 953c

Hi just thinking after reading your posts, what are you planning to do with your new track loader as it seems to be a big gap from a 953c and a 973! Not the sort of loader that you would just tidy up a back yard with! ?

A few projects I have done recently

Hi guys , is that a serrated joiner link on the 299d , and it sort of looks like oil bungs in the end of the pins too. Are they "salt " chains ? 5k hrs sounds good do the sprockets / rollers go 5k hrs too?

Other then modern technology what's the trick

Hi ,it's a lot harder than it looks to drive a small dozer as you are now aware of! If you keep your speed down and keep your blade on full angel it helps to stop you cutting holes , back up and recut if you start to leave a bump ( you will start to feel the bumps after a bit more time in the...

The one man show to grow

Hi David 427. I was brought up around my grandads diggers in the late 80's , he had 3 cat 215's and can remember the time it takes to change a bucket with no hitch ( I took a long time as only I kid at the time) hitting pins in and out isn't a fast job so on some jobs that needed a dig bucket...

The one man show to grow

My thoughts too, I guess that we end up spending more and do the work faster so you have to wonder if we have it wrong.? A new hitch and tilt is worth 15to 20 k here for a 12to 14ton digger.

The one man show to grow

Ps you get a great Finnish without a tilt bucket , you don't see many diggers here without a quick hitch and kit of buckets but the art of working with a dig bucket to the standard you get is being lost! Well done and thanks for all your pictures .

The one man show to grow

Hi guys , do the truck rates of $70/75 per hr have any other charges to them as over here in nz I get $nz 115 for a 6x4 400hp tipper ( $ usd 97.50 ish) . We have a road user charge of around 38 cents per km and diesel is around $ nz 1.50 per litre. Seems like you get trucks for a good rate, if...

    steel tracks for ctl

Hi pafarmer, how much did it cost over rubber tracks to set up? Are the chains just dry links? Or grease lubed or sealed and lubed like a dozer? 5000 hrs would be good! How many hrs so far vs % worn . I have sat on the fence on ctl,s because of the rubber track on gravel that my work has. Thanks...
