    Mack MP8 Fan Clutch Harness

I just repaired similar issue on an MP8 with alternator belt shredding and getting balled up behind damper and taking crank seal out. The tensioner for the alternator belt had lost a bit of its spring so it was bouncing a bit, you could watch the belt jump a rib on the pulley. It would be out...

Semi truck Import/export Canada to US

4.56’s aren’t bad with tall 24.5’s. You can run 70 easy enough. The last batch of haul trucks I built were 4.56’s with AT1202’s.

What is a Cummins Signature 600?

Don’t recall exact details but early in the life of the ISX they offered 600 HP 2050 TQ. It was their answer to the C16 600 Cat. What did signature get you specifically? I can’t say. I used to run with a guy that had one and it was a good running truck. He had Australian fuel codes and some...

Opinions wanted on old class 8 dump trucks for local dirt and gravel hauling

I’d lean toward the ford. Pull the check plugs on the diffs and trans to see how furry they are. What kind of shape are the beds in? Are they both budd wheels or daytons? Manual tarps? Electric tarps? Certain conditions could sway me away from either one.

Stopped by truck parts vendor to pay a bill:

I wonder if it was a special application and they had to use a full chain and part of another due to availability? We had to do that on the drill rigs. Often couldn’t get required number of links etc. So we’d buy three chains, make the two we needed and have some spare parts.

    Which gun

Tweeco spraymaster is one I had on my shop machine for a solid 15 years. Just replaced it. I can’t count how many rolls of dual shield and solid wire it ran before we replaced it. Multiple liners over the years as well.

    Heavy Equipment Repair Question

That’s usually what I use as well. A few hundred degrees is all you need. Too hot and you can’t stand to get near it to work.

    Heavy Equipment Repair Question

I’ll look them up, most of what I know is monkey see monkey do from the years of chasing pier drilling rigs. If something can be f**ked up they can do it. We built a lot of our own tooling as well. Lately it’s been excavator buckets, several getting new shanks and one had the floor tore off...

    Heavy Equipment Repair Question

Preheating anything heavy like that never hurts. It gets the moisture out and keeps it from cooling so fast it cracks welds. It’s also helpful when possible to wrap whatever you welded in a blanket to help it cool evenly. My first question is what rod or wire are you using? That will have...

Biggest dozer to pull without having a CDL?

What’s a win in your mind? The absolute best is they drop tickets. You will be out your time, any expenses and believe me now they’re gonna watch for you to make any little infraction. It’s what they do. We’re all speaking from direct experience. It seems to me that the answers you’re...

    Cat 312C Travel Motor Failure

Yes gear oil is separate from hydraulic side. How much do you use the machine? I’ve repaired quite a few drive motors. If the case is ok then you could replace damaged parts, assuming they’re available. I would be more concerned about contamination at this point. Pop it off and open it up...

    dented hydraulic cylinder barrel

Based on my experience….can you massage that ding down where the piston will move past it? Yep. Will it hold seals? For a short while yeah. The bigger concern for me is contamination if/when that thing starts making metal. Anything you run down the barrel to repair the ding runs the risk of...
