    Road ranger info please

Hi, I’m back after some time. Still gathering parts to put the 8.3 in my 96 6500 Topkick 4door. I’m heading over in Kentucky to buy a RTO 11609 that’s been professionally converted to double over. The old fellow who has it can’t answer much but I’m assuming since the RTO is already .74 that the...

    Pettibone B66B Extendo hydraulic issue

Better late than never! Thanks anyway. I’ve been messing with this for months off and on. Sometimes you just have to walk away and do something else for a while. At least that works for me. I tend to come back with a different mindset.

    Pettibone B66B Extendo hydraulic issue

Never mind I found the problem! Was a blocked tiny metering hole in the port where the pilot hose connects to valve. Cleaned it with my torch tip cleaner and works perfect! Wish I had noticed that months ago.

    Pettibone B66B Extendo hydraulic issue

Hi I’m back and still having issues with the self leveling binding up the boom raising. I have to throttle way up to get the tilt cylinder to go down and it’s extremely slow until it quits moving and if I pull back on the boom lift valve a little then the tilt will go down some more although...

    John Deere 410B hydraulic issues

Mostly at idle. I ran it to 1200 rpm for a bit but everything stayed the same just faster. The pump was quiet until I pulled the valve and the loader and outriggers work fine so it must be related to the backhoe valve. I just wasn’t expecting to take so long to get the air out. I’ll go out and...

    John Deere 410B hydraulic issues

Oh, also, the pump is really noisy but when you engage any valve it gets quiet and the rpm’s come up 2-300.

    John Deere 410B hydraulic issues

Howdy. I have removed the backhoe operator control valve and kitted the boom up/down valve. Now that I have it all back together hardly anything works. The boom cylinder will move in and out about a inch. It swings right ok but will only return about 20% from where it starts. Crowd/curl nothing...

    410 B boom bleeding down

Update: Disassembled the boom up circuit relief valve. There's a cone shaped needle valve that goes into a squared edge seat. the seat looks good but the cone has a pretty substantial groove wore all the way around. I'm assuming that's my problem. Other problem is that John deere only has...

    410 B boom bleeding down

Ok so I got the service manual and the tech manual, which obviously is way above my head on many levels but still good to help me understand what makes things work and why. I have studied these heavily, too bad they don't have a troubleshooting section. I ordered a spool kit for the boom section...

8.3 Cummins automatic to manual conversion

Crane operator, we talked a little a year or so ago when I got the 8.3. Now that the cat’s done I have no choice but move forward with the 8.3. If you could possibly get a depth measurement on your housing adapter that would help me in my search. I’d sure like to use the starter that’s on the...

8.3 Cummins automatic to manual conversion

Same question would apply on a bigger road ranger.

8.3 Cummins automatic to manual conversion

Maybe occasionally move my 20,000 lb telehandler or 15,000 lb backhoe. It’s a 6500 series base truck that started life as a Monroe dually pickup conversion. It’s the one in the picture.

8.3 Cummins automatic to manual conversion

First off, thanks to all of you who helped me along to determine that the 3116 in my 96 top kick was trashed. Good riddance. So... I have a 300 hp 8.3 Cummins, mechanical, from a wreck and only 66,000 miles that I want to fit in there. It’s only 1/2” longer than the cat and very close in height...

3116 water going directly to oil pan

Removed oil pan. Block cracked at camshaft galley. On to the next project installing the 8.3. Gonna start a new thread on that. Thanks for all the input.

    B66B Pettibone self leveler

Yes it has a large cylinder at the rear on each side of the boom. It does not have slave cylinders that I can see. Each cylinder has a pilot valve on the bottom port. The old man I got it from had it over 20 years and he said he never did anything except maintenance and the occasional hose. I...

    B66B Pettibone self leveler

5-531. Yes it labors when tilting down but not when tilting up. You also have to throttle pretty good while booming down or it’s slow. Yes tilt has a pilot. I’ll check the leveling after while. It seems to work fine lifting light but pick up a junk car and it starts doing it. It’s worse the...

    B66B Pettibone self leveler

Also, I don’t have a dipstick for the transmission. If somewhat one of these machines it would be great if you could measure your dipstick from top of opening down to full mark so I can make something up. Thanks

    B66B Pettibone self leveler

Hi. So I’ve been using this machine for a couple weeks now and have noticed that any time I’m picking a fairly heavy load it comes up 4-5 feet and stops. If I level up the forks then the boom will raise a little more, level the forks, boom will come up, repeat. Is there some kind of valve or...

    410 B boom bleeding down

Hi, Looking for some advice. I bought this backhoe yesterday and it’s in fairly decent shape other than the main boom bleeding down fairly quickly. You have to stay with it just to drive it around. The guy said he switched the hoses to another valve to check the cylinder and it stayed up so...
