Terex TA30 will not go into gear

Hi Jcantu, I'll get you some info in a conversation. With no F or R signal nothing will get out of TCU and no solenoids will do anything.

Terex TA30 will not go into gear

93 is basically a low level codeindicating an open circuit to reverse alarm relais, no reason not to go into gear. When pressing top button on gear switch and moving to F or R system does not catch gear, right? And no further code? So I'd assume not sufficient signals from gear switch. Unplug...

Doosan DA30 with ZF 8EP 320 Transmission goes into neutral whiles driving.

Brian, I'm not sure what came first? Hen or egg? Losing converter pressure: Is it lockup clutch (LUC) pressure? Or converter back pressure? Presumably lockup as converter pressure is created via mechanical spring and piston. The question is: Does LUC disengage due to transmission going to N (A)...

    544K road speed too slow!

Hmm, MG2361, how to create a photo in 3rd manual, engine 2110 rpm at 0 mph travel speed? On the other hand 2100 stall is super high for machines from 2000. So lets wait what watglen will tell us.

    544K road speed too slow!

Watglen, in your post from Friday 2:01 PM transmission is in 4th, but engine rpm only 1655. This is far too low, should be close to 2200 rpm then. Even in stall condition engine got 2100 rpm. My assumption: There is an engine speed limitation set somewhere to avoid too high travelling speed.

    544K road speed too slow!

Hi Watglen, the 4 speed trannies usually are NOT equipped with lock up clutch, the 5 speeds yes. 15 mph looks like not shifting up to 4th. You are sure it is running in 4th? Then converter should produce lots of heat. Does it when travelling?

Doosan DA30 with ZF 8EP 320 Transmission goes into neutral whiles driving.

Hi Brian, are you able to share TCU number/code? And have you any chance to get a readout of fault memory of TCU/ECU/VCU? Possibly the output speed signal is sometimes faulty. But this one is wired up internally. So not quite easy to fix in truck.

Doosan DA30 with ZF 8EP 320 Transmission goes into neutral whiles driving.

Presumably the gear shifter is giving digital signals to VCU (vehicle controller), which gives CAN signals to TCU.

Doosan DA30 with ZF 8EP 320 Transmission goes into neutral whiles driving.

So, I'd assume the issue is somewhere between gear shift connector and plug to transmission.

Doosan DA30 with ZF 8EP 320 Transmission goes into neutral whiles driving.

Would you have the chance to swap gear switches from a good to bad truck?

Doosan DA30 with ZF 8EP 320 Transmission goes into neutral whiles driving.

Does it drop to neutral when running over bumps or accidentially? Any other feedback from operators?

Doosan DA30 with ZF 8EP 320 Transmission goes into neutral whiles driving.

Hi Brian, according to my documents: TCU got a neutral signal while truck in motion. Check wiring/plugs from/to gear selector.

Doosan DA30 with ZF 8EP 320 Transmission goes into neutral whiles driving.

Hmmm, strange. ZF usually got very specific codes, broken wire, short circuit, low resistance etc. How Doosan puts it into clusters and throws similar codes I'm not aware. Engine brake torque is mainly important during coast (brake) downshifts, (coast upshifts are seldom). Any chance to erase...

Doosan DA30 with ZF 8EP 320 Transmission goes into neutral whiles driving.

Hi Brian, so congratulations. And thanks for feedback what many members miss after issue is fixed. Reason for affect to tranny: The clutch pressure during shifts is calculated mainly from engine and engine brake (when engaged).

Doosan DA30 with ZF 8EP 320 Transmission goes into neutral whiles driving.

Did someone exchange engine controller or transmission controller recently? Do these two units fit together?

Doosan DA30 with ZF 8EP 320 Transmission goes into neutral whiles driving.

Brian, how was the code in digits? Readout fault memory usually from ZF technician, Doosan expert should also be able.

Doosan DA30 with ZF 8EP 320 Transmission goes into neutral whiles driving.

Hi Brian, there must be a fault code somewhere on dash indicating reason for shift to neutral. Any chance to get a readout of fault memory of TCU?

    Zf 4wg130

Hmmm, really crazy. Engine, converter, transmission seem to be allright. Are tires worn out extremely different? Are you sure when travelling there is no residual pressure built up in brakes? Getting hot somehow ? Check ratio of axles. Did someone change out differential inserts? Possibly...

    Zf 4wg130

Hi KinkFM again, so do I understand you right? 3rd reverse is as slow as 3rd F? What is speed of engine with converter stalled? Tests: A) Shift 2nd F, step fully on brake, wide open throttle (WOT), read engine speed. B) Shift 4th F, same engine rpm? You said you did an oil change: Old oil was...

    Zf 4wg130

Hi KinkFM, position 6 is correct. Oil level (engine idle speed, transmission warm, neutral) must be around 50 mm below mid/center/centre output shaft. There are usually three marks on dipstick, warm max, warm min (70-80 degrees C) and cold min. (40 degrees). With current european starting temps...
